Pre-purchase survey in Donegal

    Hi all,

Sorry if this is a bit broad but just looking for some advice/recommendations and some clarification if possible.

I am looking to possibly purchase a house in Donegal (Newtowncunningham) and looking for recommendations on any good surveyors to carry out a pre purchase survey. Also wondering if any surveyor could flag the house for MICA or if I specifically need an engineer registered under the IS465:2018 standard? Do they just carry out tests or do they do surveys as well? They all seem swamped at the minute understandably.

Any advice or info would be appreciated!

Most "surveyors" (architects, technicians, building surveyors etc) will carry out a pre-purchase survey or the likes but wont include any details of mica. In fact any written survey report would be heavily qualified as they cant take the risk. If there are signs of mica present then you will have to engage an engineer who may give an opinion only based on a visual inspection. Testing is the only way to be sure one way or the other.

A couple of local lads in Newton who have their own practices and would carry out surveys and who may be able to help further - Patrick Canning and Dominic Whoriskey. A good firm in Letterkenny is MH Associates. Google will get you their contact numbers but if you need anything else drop me a PM
