I have a baby coming and there will be a few months gap between all the leaves running out and creche place opens up.

What is the cost of a childminder, I'm aware I have to pay PRSI etc, for 9-5 work, my own home? The total cost, approx, and is there any relief towards it anything I can claim against it to make it financially sound?

And where do you find a reputable person anyway?

Does it have to be in your own home? Most childminder's would run a service from their own home as they would mind more than one child. So it might be easier for you to find someone if you were to consider your child going to them, rather than they coming to your child. If you want them to come to your home it's a nanny rather than a childminder you should search for or enquire about.

Yeah has to be my home. Thank you for the sites they both look very promising.

Just leaves me with the question of how much a full time nanny costs.

Minimum wage is €11.30 an hour, but a nanny can cost up to €20 an hour. Contacting the relevant agencies would be your best bet. Depending on the area of the country you're in you might not have a lot of choice, or availability.

An au pair is a cheaper option than a nanny, but the au pair lives in your house and you provide their food and lodgings. There can also be a limit on the hours they are expected to work depending on their age/student status etc. My friend had a mature woman (in her 30s) living with her as an au pair for a time and found her great. She said she was very lucky to have her.

We've used mindme.ie. We got a babysitter there, but I've family that interviewed childminders from that site. You have to pay to get access to their contact details, but you can at least search their database to see if there's anyone suitable. Dont know the cost of childminder though, would be interested in finding out myself for next year.
