my imersion on my copper tank keeps tripping out when switched on ,on investigation looking under cover of immersion connecters there seems to be moisture built up and corrosion starting .I never use immersion and oil boiler normally heats the tank ,strange to see moisture under cover when heat is normally on ,could the termostat in the immersion be drawing moisture as it only sits down on immersion and not screwed down

Any of the bits that dip into the tank can corrode and leak back up through the boss. You could get a stainless immersion or else remove the immersion and put a bung in it. Don't forget to terminate the wiring in a safe manner.

As Wearb says - it's leaking from a point and needs replacement. It's not condensation. Isolate it at the double-pole switch and have it replaced by a plumber. I say replaced as I'd think about the day when the oil goes and you need the immersion as an emergency standby.

Most likely the element needs replacing.

    Hi All,

Can anyone advise if this immersion thermostat is wired correctly.

    Thanks

Looks OK to me, single element, switching the live via control stat and hi limit stat.

    Thanks John.G,

Its for a Gold Shield Cylinder element. My water was boiling following a new tank installation and I found that the plumber had put the 2 white wires into the Thermostat.... I figured that was my problem, rewired it as per the photos and was just checking to see if I had done things right. Thanks again

Must have managed to bypass the control stat?, on dual immersions the neutral is switched so that one set of stats can switch either selected immersion.
