Mechanic to do an engine swap in a classic Volvo

    Hey folks,

My dream is to own a Volvo 240 sleeper car, I see in other countries people doing all kinds of engine swaps, an American V8 would be amazing but likely imposible to get here or incredibly expensive. I was thinking an XC90 engine might be a good option to keep it Volvo. I couldn't do this myself though, I was wondering if there are mechanic around who do this type of job and what sort of labour costs would be involved.

Looking to buy one, or maybe a 740.

Just buy an 850 2.3 (240 BHP) and stick a 240 badge on it. I know a few mechanics who could do that! 😀

Are you planning to upgrade other components such as brakes and suspension to handle the V8 engine's power and weight?

Lots of much more suitable sleeper candidates out there I'd say.

I would much prefer rwd. My first rwd car was a 940 2.3t. The 850r goes for about 10k sterling in the UK and a t5 5k. You can get a 240 here for a lot less. If it would cost 10 grand to do the engine swap then this might be an option though i would prefer a 740 2.3t and try and tune it a bit. On the braking and suspension yes, that is a bit more straightforward though in relation to labour, that's why I am asking about a mechanic cost to see if it's viable..
