I am looking at covering the stair rail in my house (decretive iron) using 6mm MDF board on either side.

My current thoughts are just to make spacers out of some 2"x2" that I have lying around and screwing both boards into multiple of them. However I am looking for ideas how best to secure them without too many screws as I obviously do not want to be looking at a load of screw heads running up the stairs.

I could possibly be putting panelling up on the outside board, so that could cover the screw heads on that side.
