Has any one got a reccomendation for a Neurologist in Ireland who specialises in vascular dementia? Dublin preferably but not essential. If they are a people person so much the better.

Also are there services that help people in early stage dementia make practical daily living plans for the future? Private or public services? I've come across services oriented to family members but not those oriented towards helping the patient themself plan for their future in the absence of family support.

There is a whole unit of Geriatrician's based out of Carew House on the St Vincent's Public campus that do just this. Any GP can refer. It's the St. Vincent's Memory Clinic

Several small human studies have shown benefit on cognition in dementia with a ketogenic diet intervention. Future, large controlled studies are needed to confirm this benefit; however, the ketogenic diet has shown promise in regard to delay or mitigation of symptoms of cognitive decline.

The positive effects of intermittent fasting in dementia. Pathologies in dementia including neuroinflammation, the abnormal secretion of neurotransmitters, synaptic dysfunction, cerebrovascular inflammation, brain insulin resistance, and impaired neurogenesis were improved by intermittent fasting.

Thanks Mark. This adds to my awareness of the keto diets benefits and confirms my suspicion that stabilising MRIs since I went on the Keto diet (or in my case Ketotarian) are suggestive of more than correlation.

We tried them some years ago with my late Dad but found they couldn't diagnose him until it was too late and were dismissive in the early stdges of his dementia. I'm looking for someone to attend privately who won't be prioritising resources to those in a more advanced condition. Mind you maybe I should see if the Memory Clinic has improved. It's been some years.
