Seville Oranges availablity in Bantry

Hello, does anyone know of getting Seville Oranges to use in Sauce Bogarde ?

These have a short seaon, December to February so your timing is good. See /google Results for “Seville oranges” - Tesco Groceries.. I used to buy them for making marmalade... google? They can be bought prapared at tesco or bought in season and frozen.. They are a bitter orange.

You can or could get them ready prepared.. in tins.. maybe a large tesco?

I get mine in Dunnes. Hurry though.....season nearly gone. Freeze a few if u need during year.

The vast majority of people use Seville oranges to make marmalade - you know a preserve. The whole idea of preserving food is to be able to enjoy said food when it's out of season.

I freeze the juice for cocktails.

Should I only drink "seasonal cocktails"?

Citrus fruits are never in season in Ireland. I suppose we shouldn't consume them at all??

You're right, my apologies. But worth to mention.

People in Ireland used to consume rosehip instead of oranges. Compare the nutritional content of oranges to rose hips and you will find that rose hips contain 25 percent more iron, 20 to 40 percent more Vitamin C (depending upon variety), 25 times the Vitamin A, and 28 percent more calcium.

I’m old enough to remember the annual rose hip collections. The whole town would turn out and the resulting rose hip syrup would be sent off to help the poor souls in Africa.

Ah no. we have always prese rved fruit etc since medieval times at least. Dried fruit? Human chemistry is infinitely adaptable or we would starve. Please quote reliable sources for your theory? Thank you. And dried fruit is deliberately preserved to be eaten when there is less in season NB that link will not open

Mrs Beer made some stunning marmalade from 1.5Kg or oranges yesterday.

The other 1.5Kg was juiced and zested and frozen for use in cooking and cocktails!

We pick rosehip, rowanberry, elderberry and sloe each year.

Ive just finished making a batch of rowanberry jelly.
