Driver with loud radio on coach

Was on a coach inter city recently sitting near the front and the driver had the radio on very loud. I asked him if he could turn it down and he said no and I could go to the back to be far away from it. He said he needed it as it helped him to concentrate and not to 'fall asleep'.

Has anyone had similar experiences with drivers and radios. This was not Bus Eireann mind you but a private company.

The amount of times I've had to endure wretched Country n Irish on buses in Donegal. I usually bring noise cancelling headphones with me.

I travel by train a lot on the continent and occasionally by bus.

Just bring headphones, noise cancelling if you have them. I use a pair of large ones and occasionally put earplugs in. Eye cover and a hoodie with a large hood to drape over your face and you're good to go.

Would you prefer if he did fall asleep at the wheel and the bus was involved in an accident?

Maybe blame the operator for making drivers work 12-14 hour shifts which are the norm for long distance coach operators in Ireland.

No I certainly would not like driver to fall asleep and have an accident occur.

I have no idea how many hours driver had been working before I got on the bus.

I thought it unusual for a driver to say having the radio on helps him from falling asleep

Check with IMRO whether the company has a licence with them for their coach to play music to the public, if they don't report them. Could be €164.49 extra they have to pay...

Well it was the radio in fact. Morning time. Mature driver playing infantile RTE Radio 2 junk. It keeps him from falling asleep.
