Advice Needed Freesat/Saorview Setup

Need some advice on what I should do with my current setup. I'm just exiting a contract with Sky so have the Sky Q dish installed. I think it is the Q wideband LNB type dish as there are 2 X satellite cables. I also have an old UHF antenna on the dish mount that was used for an old combi box we had before Sky Q but it's not currently wired up. I have an LG B1 TV which has a single satellite and single aerial port on the back.

Want to return to Freeview/Saorview setup but I think my TV is not compatible with the LNB type on the Sky Q dish and would also need to run a new cable from the UHF antenna.

Would it be a better idea to get a combi box that can handle wideband LNB satellite input for Freeview and UHF input for Saorview. Not sure if such a box exists as most I've looked at run off the other LNB type. Other option is maybe change the LNB on the dish to directly connect to the TV but think there are limitations on recording?

    Any advice appreciated.

limited amount of good freesat boxes that can do UHF and satellite. I have a ferguson ariva 255 https://www.freetv.ie/ferguson-ariva-255/ it works well, picks up every channel. The Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) is basic, not nearly as nice as sky but it does the job.

I made the mistake of buying it without getting it pre-programmed so it ment I had hundreds of channels many of them the same channel that I had to go and delete.

    Hi,

I believe the Arris freesat box has the capability to operate with the sky Q type lnb, and record multiple programs at the same time,

I have one of these boxes and find it quite good, but I’m using it with a normal lnb,

you would need to do your homework on this as I’m not sure if there is more than one type of sky Q lnb,

I’m sure some of the knowledgeable guys who post here will advise

Arris freesat box’s are available on Amazon.

get aerial sorted for saorview and your good to go.

Normally Sky Q lnb is 2 cables and wont work with other boxes. Change the lnb to a universal and if you also have 2 cables in another room go for a quad and would allow twin sat tuners boxes for watching and recording

I have a Saorview and sat tuner on tv and i have Zgemma H7S with twin sat feeds and saorview feed.

I have a separate aerial feed split to Zgemma and tv giving me option to record on box and view on tv.

Enigma 2 box i find better in finding things that when i had sat tuner working.

Have a Ferguson Arriva combi box for nearly fifteen years I'd say. Had to get a new remote, tenner on eBay, otherwise flawless.

    Hi,

I hope this information regarding OP question about freesat box working with Sky Q lnb may be clarified in linked article,

You can't get Freeview from a dish whatever LNB you have. It is a terrestrial service through an aerial like Saorview. You can get free to air satellite however that has most of the Freeview channels. The LNB used for sky Q is non standard and the only boxes that work with it are sky Q and Arris.

So first thing to do is get that non standard LNB changed for a standard one or possibly (at additional cost) to a hybrid one that has both standard and non standard outputs. Then you can connect direct to your TV while you consider the next move re recording.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I think I'm going to go with a Zgemma H7S and change out the LNB to work with it. Would be handy to have concurrent view/record and will split the aerial feed to have one to the TV and one to the box. Thanks for all the info, really helped clear up the best options available.
