    Quick question.

    3 bed apartment.

    3 people sharing.

Estimated gas bill is €90 per person per month (€270 total).

Is this about right or too much?

I just got my latest gas bill for a 2 bed apartment with 2 people and it was €98 for two months, so yours seems very excessive.

It is high but it depends on how you are using it. E.g.: Do you keep the heating system on 24/7? What is the temperature that set up the apartment for?

I live in a 3 bed house, end of terrace and my estimated gas bill for Dec - Jan is €247.76 right now -- €0.083 per kw (before vat) with Bord Gais Energy

I've updated my monthly flat payment across the year to be e100 and it will give me plenty of room to use it.

I would put it was average.

My bi-monthly bill was €250. My consumption is the same but I'm paying more than double per unit of gas than last year.

Thanks very much for the replies.

What hours do you run the gas to achieve the these figures?

Especially during these times of December and Jan when it's been down to -4C at times.

Or is everyone wearing 3 or 4 layers and hats indoors.

Are people working from home with the heating on all day? also when did you last change providers? if its more than 12 months you are most likely on a high non discounted tariff

I think with 3 individual adults it will be harder to compare to family usage.

In that a family is fairly routine based.

With 3 adults you'll have a lot more coming and going, one or two people up late with heat on, similarly one or two up early with heat on. Schedules don't always align.

I know here we would have the heating on in the morning and then around the times the kids get home from school. Then maybe again around 6/7 all for an hour each time. Once kids go to bed it would be very rare to put the heating on. There's plenty of scatter blankets we just throw over ourselves, plus with kids you're not staying up too late either.

However I do know people who would wear vest tops all day and heating on full blast (I've also seen people with windows open and heating on).....so in a house share you do need to look at what everyone individually is up to.

    Are you using gas for

    heating or

    heating and hot water or

heating and hot water and cooking

We use ours for heating and hot water. 3 people in a 3 bed mid terrace, I work from home and our last gas bill was €109 for 2 months covering October and November. I'm expecting a much higher bill on 27th January though but not €540!

To give an accurate answer you would need to provide a lot more detail OP. Otherwise its like asking people how much they spend on petrol for their cars.

What is your per unit rate for gas, newer or older boiler, usage duration and set temperature, hot water and cooking included are the key areas that would affect your bills.
