I got a card in the post asking for "Permission to fit outside of house a small fibre optic box socket. This will provide you faster secure broadband".

I haven't been with EIR in years. I dont see how this could benefit me as i am with virgin media.

Anyone know whats up with this box?

Sounds like you're probably in an Urban location is you're a Virgin Media customer. Eir are rolling out a fibre network in Urban areas for the last few years, and this is probably related. It will give you (and others in the area), the option to get a Fibre connection instead of Virgin Media cable in time. Others use the OpenEir fibre network to deliver their services, so you won't be limited to Eir for fibre.
