Advice on upgrades on my mid range gaming pc

Looking to upgrade my pc. I mainly play Escape from Tarkov which I am aware is a horribly unoptimised game that eats peoples souls.....

However one must try so with that in mind I have the following

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GHz

Motherboard: Tomahawk B350 (MS-7A34) (AM4)

Memory: 16 GB Single Channel DDR4 1333 MHz

Video Card:Nvdia 1060 GTX 6GB

Storage: 238 GB Western Digital SSD and 2TB Seatgate SATA

Any advice greatly appreciated

Firstly, single channel ram is going to really hurt your performance. 16GB of ram is enough but a single stick of 16GB is bad for gaming performance.

So you can change that to a kit of 2x8GB 3200Mhz DDR4.

Next, a new CPU would be good - make sure your bios is updated to one that supports it, and get Ryzen 5600 or 5600X.

Graphics wise, something like an RX6600 or 6650XT would be a massive upgrade.

That board will take the Ryzen 5xxx series (update the BIOS first though), so there's plenty of CPU options available.

A GTX 1060 is a bit anaemic today.

But we'd need to know your intended budget to give more precise advise, both for the CPU and GPU options.

My budget would be about 500 euro ideally. I didn't realise the RAM was such an issue. Yikes must change that immeadiately.

Was thinking of x2 16GB DDR4 RAM? Are Komplett still good? Forum wont let me post links. Thanks for all help

€500 doesn't get you much in GPU terms these days. This doesn't need to be done all at once, so it can be done piecemeal. A Ryzen 5700x is about €230 euro as the first option. For the RAM, aim for 3600MHz stuff, as that's the sweet spot for Ryzen performance. In the longer term you could then save for a GPU.

6600XT and Ryzen 3600 is not much more than 500 from Amazon.

Get a 16GB Kit in 2x8GB 3200mhz/3600mhz and sell the single 16GB stick and you've got a very big upgrade for around 550 in total.

If you're willing to push the boat out a little a Ryzen 5600X would add almost 100 on and would be worth it.

I don't think a Ryzen 8-core is necessary like 5700X or 5800X. 5600X is a rock solid gaming CPU and will be for years.

There's also 2nd hand as an option particularly for GPUs. Eg an AMD 5700XT from CEX for 300 with 2 year warranty. It's not too far off a 6600XT and light years ahead of a 1060 6GB.

If you buy a second x1 16GB DDR4 RAM such as this

you end up with 32GB😋 How much do you expect to get from selling such a stick when brand new ones can be had for 36€?... You are spending 500€... :/

If you decide to go with this option be sure to use CPU-Z and buy a stick with identical timings.

Trade in the GPU & RAM at CEX = increased budget by 120. Buy a 2060 Super from CEX (they have 4 in-stock) = even if it's mined, you have 2 years warranty.

You could even trade in the 1600 for another 54 and jump on this RTX 2070 Super if you're quick.

His existing single 16GB stick is only 2666Mhz DDR4. Makes more sense to replace it with 16GB of dual channel 3600mhz.

Only if the OP is planning on replacing the CPU. As far as "Escape from Tarkov" is concerned, what is the weakest link? The CPU or the GPU?

Both are weak. OP has the funds to replace both.
