50 years old - retire in 15 years - should I invest in ETF

Hi

i am 50 and will retire when I am 65.

i have about €100,000 in cash which I don’t need as I have a „rainy day fund“ of around €25,000

should I invest the €100,000 in ETFs as my „retirement fund“?

I am considering the MSCI World ETF

is this a good idea or should I keep the €100,000 in cash and worry that inflation will eat it over the next 15 years.

Are you paying into a pension?

You won’t get anywhere near 40% return on an EFT investment ( or even 20% if you are a lower rate taxpayer).

No - not paying into pension.

Was working abroad and mostly „cash in hand“ so unfortunately I don’t have much to look forward to

I am now back in Ireland and get work occasionally

15 years isn't ideal but getting tax relief on pension contributions will probably beat any return on efts over that term. Have a chat with an independent financial advisor.
