Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I find it extremely weird too. He could be judging and commenting on players he could end up playing.

And it's also weird to hear him saying things like they should have played it this way or that when he makes these mistakes himself.

    Waiting for Ronnie vs Williams.....

Of course he makes mistakes? Do commentators and pundits need to have a perfect record or something? 😅

Being able to watch a game and point out where a mistake was made is what informative commentary is about. It would be ridiculous to think that you can’t explain an error made unless you have a 147 break on every match you play😂

As for commentating matches featuring players you might compete against that’s a non issue really too? It’s not like he’s sitting and calling them useless or whatever he’s objectively discussing their high’s and low’s in that match or their overall record. You can’t just expect that retired and out of competition players will always be available to do the comms and I personally like having pro players involved as they obviously have a much keener insight to the whole experience than non players.

Fact is me or you might understand the game very well but we certainly haven’t a clue about how it feels to be at the big table playing an opponent that may be intimidating and how that could impact a player. They can offer the insight only players can and I think it’s very valuable. It would be worthless if they skirted around calling a judgment error or blatant screw up out just because they make them also.

everyone makes mistakes and no one’s above having them talked about.

  • Registered Users Posts: 827 ✭✭✭farmingquestion

Of course everyone makes mistakes or misjudges something.

The point is he can go on about "that was careless, there was so much room for error there" yet he'll go and do the same thing. I find that aspect weird. I dunno, I just find it weird...going around judging others while you do the same things they do...

Ronnie won't be retiring anyhow .

He wants to break every record now

Again I wouldn’t see anything abnormal about it tbh it’s a game of luck as much as skill sometimes.

Turning into a right battle now at 4-4. Willo with the momentum

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,122 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Ronnie had the better luck in that crucial frame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,472 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

That is a lovely clearance for 5-4. Thought he missed the black for a second

Wow. Williams won that frame, I thought O'Sullivan had that in the bag.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,122 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Obnoxious Ronnie supporters in the crowd as always.

I'm heading to this tomorrow night. Should be a bit of craic.

I'll shout something out so you'll know it's me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,063 ✭✭✭Genghis

Great match this. My two favorite players. Chance for Ronnie in the last frame goes a-begging. Willo for the win from here I'd feel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,122 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I didn't agree with Mark going into the pack, and it's messed up. He had a loose red.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,472 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

One handed great shot. Had to get red away from there

Excuse my ignorance but why did he hit that one handed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,063 ✭✭✭Genghis

Mark unimpressed with the commentators. Shuts DT up for 45 seconds anyway ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,122 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Well that was worth waiting for from Williams. It's his match to win now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,122 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

You can shout away. It won't be for O'Sullivan. 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,472 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Great win for Mark. From where he was.

He's that good with a cue he can often play a shot with one hand.

The BBC team need some new exclamations.

    What a shot

    What a match

    What a performance

    What a game

    What an afternoon

Well done Williams. He showed good composure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,031 ✭✭✭✭Snake Plisken

Fantastic match from both players. Hope Williams goes on and wins the tournament now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,811 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Bit of a classic, had everything. Very enjoyable.

fückwit Ronnie fans are some doses though. Not fair at all on him but I thought Mark dealt with it in a composed fashion. Olivier was getting rightfully pîssed off towards the end but Mark’s composure never looked anything other then steadfast…enough pressure having to contend with playing Ronnie and being 0-3 down but down 3 or 4 seconds on your break-off shot and morons still yelling out, not only breaking but at various intervals throughout the 11 frames.

Ah they really do my head in haha. Look all for supporting your favourite player but constantly as you said shouting GWOOON RONNEH everytime he either does something or someone’s leaving the table from a miss etc is just cringe.

I noticed the referee becomes a lot more vocal telling people to “settle down” and “turn that off” during O’Sullivan matches. Not his fault obviously I’m sure it does his head in a bit also.

Lisowski started with a measured break, but the way these two play this could develop into a bit of a shootout of power snooker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,532 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Lisowski-Vafaei is shaping up to be a right ding dong battle!

I thought it was going to be a whitewash after the first 2 frames, but Vafaei had got right back in it.

Lots of nervy shots from both, but then they get into their stride and there's some lovely snooker being played.

Having said that, what was Vafaei thinking taking on that plant to the middle???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,479 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Vafael pushing the boat out too much tonight, seems to be a bit hyped up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,656 ✭✭✭DJIMI TRARORE

Some of the worst shot ever played in snooker at the start of F9

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,532 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Someone on here might put me out of my misery, that gambling aware ad on ES has been annoying me for ages....

Who are the two talking heads on it that are not Ruby Walsh and Stephanie Meadow???

Williams thinks if he hits some shots like that one handed it helps him to get a better angle/feel. I don't understand it myself. No one else does it before/since.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Ah feel bad for Vahei he played well. Had plenty of chances though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,910 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Williams will be well able for Lisowski I think.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,532 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

The same, I thought he might sneak it. But I'm delighted to see Lisowski through, his form seems to be improving all the time.

Vafaei's head must have been all over the shop, only getting into the tournament at the very last minute,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,479 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Turned a bit amateurish there for a while due to Vafaei loosing his composure. Think he could do with a bit of that sports psychology treatment.

I've got a plan. At 8:30pm tomorrow night, the next time there is a good shot and people are clapping or cheering, I will shout "Gwan Ronnie!". This is all your fault.

If I don't chicken out or forget

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,479 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Watched the match on BBC Snooker Extra just now.

Tbh I don't get why he played it like that. He may have seen the line right but I think he missed because the cue wasn't stable. He could have used his bridge hand and bent over slightly to keep that birds eye view. I thought it was a bit unprofessional to play it the way he did.

Anyway as well as Williams played to recover I'm sure Ronnie will feel very sore for loosing that match after that brilliant last frame he won to draw level.

He can get a better read of the angle playing it one handed believe it or not!

Bit surprised by the score line with Bingham half way there already to nil. Have to admire Bingham's zeal this evening so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,435 ✭✭✭weemcd

I'd love to see Murphy interviewed here whitewashed 6-0. Would take a bit of the smugness out of him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,031 ✭✭✭✭Snake Plisken

Will be delighted if he gets hammered that's all he deserves!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,479 ✭✭✭AllForIt

The only way back for Murphy now is if Bingham gets attacked by a swarm of wasps

I'd be embarressed if I was him with all these misses on the snooker

  • Posts: 0 Lia Strong Key

I’d be embarrassed he went 3 frames without potting a single ball…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,479 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Murphy could have played and commentated on this match at the same time

  • Posts: 0 Lia Strong Key

    If he’d fluked that black… 😂

hope he didn’t give away his lucky cue or something 😂
