Medical Card / GP Services Card

We applied and received GP services card because although we are retired we have a small annual income from contract work but it's not a lot, less than €5,000pa, plus we have savings and a small investment made years ago. My neighbour said we should apply for a medical card but we don't think we'd get it. Any advice would be appreciated please. What is the limit for savings/income for means testing?

This link from citizens advice has a lot of information, means test etc.

You have nothing to lose by applying.

The disregards and allowances are quite generous especially if you are over 70.

Follow the link provided above and go for it.

If at least one of you is over 70 and your entire combined income as a couple weekly is less than €1050 then you will be entitled to a medical card. There is a savings disregard of €72000 for a couple.
