    Hi all.

just your advice on the below matter.

i live in an estate with 145 houses. My neighbour actually 6 of them as they are living in the same house used to park one of the 6 cars underneath my window. Recently i got a car from work and managed somehow to park my car underneath my window.

in fairness i am passing few cm on my neighbour side but thinking that for the last 2 years he parked his car right in front of my house i d say we are even.

since before xmas he took all his bins out and put them on the footpath very close to my car - which is parked on the road- scratching it most of the time as he s making sure every day that the bins are in contact - glued- to my car.

    what do i do here?!!!

    many many thanks

any idea or advice will be much appreciated

Turn his full bins upside down on his doorstep.

I'm only half joking here. People who engage in this sort of passive aggressive nonsense behaviour only understand one thing, a good slap. Literal or metaphorical.

Park your car outside your home and if he does petty little things to show his displeasure at that, do not tolerate it. Not for a second.

I understand that may seem daunting, but you'd be surprised how effective it is, when petty bullies get their toes stamped on.

If there are 6 adults in the other house, bring some friends with you and have them stand at a distance, but just far enough that he knows they are with you.

Perhaps just knock in to your neighbour and ask them to not leave his bins so close to your car. You will learn a lot from the response and then, if needed look at the options offered above 👆

Done that, what i ve got in return was : Ya f…..g ignorant c..t, move your car, why do you need 2 cars if you are single?!

If he’s had scratched your car. Put in a claim against his house insurance or car insurance for a re spray

maybe put a camera on your windowsill looking out to support your claim

Are the bins being put out on days when there is no collection?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭miresica

The bins are out since 21.12.2022. They did scratch the car. Never took the bins in bins are on my car day and night sometimes i push them further however immediately one of them comes out and pushes the bins back glued to my car

Mod Note - OP I have moved your thread to Accommodation and Property which is probably more suited to it.

    Local charter now applies.

Call the council and report littering. Bins aren’t allowed be kept on the street/path

but first call him. Tell him to kop on and stop.

    No gdpr involved here

Are they renting or owners? Maybe try to contact their landlord to get him/her to intervene if they're renting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,365 ✭✭✭✭elperello

So your car is on the roadway and the bins are on a grass verge between path and roadway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭miresica

    Yes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭miresica

They are the kids of the owner 2 brothers with girlfriends and another 2 that are renting. The parents are visiting often hence they have lots of cars. One day there were 8 cars

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70 ✭✭asdfg22

Take a couple of pics with the number of the car. Gardai i expect this is an offence. Also take pics of all the cars that are staying in the house. I expect a ce may need be kept at address where its taxed/insured. GDPR not revelant in public space.

Then follow the advice of Ted1 and contact the local authority when they open after the holiday.

    Done

much appreciated all the advises especially as i am new with these issues and not know the proper steps for reporting

Not at all, if it's for all intents and purposes an abandoned car on a public road.

And, OP's neighbor has a black lid on a green bin...

To be honest, it looks like a deliberate attempt at intimidation. I'd suggest having a word with the local community Garda and maybe see what happens if they decide to move the bins. The Council would be another good option.

The bad news is that this is likely to cause bad blood for some time, possibly for ever.

GDPR isn't quite that simple, but there's no issues with the photo shared above.

It is relevant. The window seals are covered in moss, rather odd for a recently acquired company car.

Parking in estates is always a source of frustration especially when the occupants of one house have lots of cars and abuse footpaths. It’s also frustrating when a car is left to rot and become an eyesore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭miresica

It is not an abandoned car. As said my daughter drives it and myself as well when i do not have the car from work. There is insurance valid nct and tax road

Just tell them to stop putting it and they damaged your car, if they don’t sort it, tell them you’ll take it further. Just call the cops and give them the big bad man was very intimidating blah blah and half threatening you. It will shut them up and stop it happening. If not, just call the cops again. Trust me a decent cop will tell them to cop on. Trust me

For me thewre is no issue publishing a pic of anything that is in a public carriageway... am i wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,673 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

It depends. A person's face is personal data, so if you're publishing personal data, you need a legal basis for doing so. You could possibly claim personal or journalistic exemption, or public interest basis, if you didn't have consent. The Rynes case on CCTV imposes fairly specific requirements on households using CCTV. There aren't any specific rulings on questions about individual street photos, so it is a slightly grey area at present, to the best of my knowledge.

    happy new year all!!!

few updates: i have mounted a ring doorbell and a camera near the window. What i got: the entire crew came home yelling on the street at 11.30 pm: hi…. My name…. Our favourite neighbour. Then one of them took from their bin some garbage and shifted it in my front garden and after he took one of the wheely bins and smashed it against my car - scratched it and dent it. I have recorded the whole action. Got in the car went to the garda, noone there we called 999, the garda came in and asked me to go for statements next day. While the policeman was looking at the car he took something from underneath the wheels. Watching the footage i ve noticed that my neighbour took something from the bin and put it underneath the car, later the policeman told me that there were two pieces of glass underneath the wheels and he removed them that night when he came over.

i ve sent an email to county council for littering they are investigating.

the bins are still against my car, it seems that nothing will make them move the bins.

even if i go outside 4 times per day to push the bins back they will come out and push them against my car.

    any more ideas?

    much appreciated

Did the guards see the video and call to your neighbours?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 491 ✭✭SwimClub

Did you consider parking somewhere else, it might be less trouble.

You can't get away from your neighbours without moving house, it might be worth going out of your way not to wind each other up.

Yes they did, we sat down and the policeman said he will start prosecution however no news as yet. My neighbours are acting like nothing happened and they couldn’t care less

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭miresica

I did and i will however i still need to see where all of this will go and how am i going to fix my car.

if i am going to move my car there will be their cars parked in my space in 2 secs, how is this fair?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 491 ✭✭SwimClub

When you say your space, it looks like on street parking on a public road, it isn't allocated parking for you?

If that's the case anyone can park outside your house, including yourself but it isn't your space.

Can you not park both cars in your drive even if one is sticking out?

In these type of fallouts the guards can get involved, talk to the neighbours involved and it won't end there, they go on and on.

You might really piss them off by getting the guards involved.

Do you want to be permanently fighting with your neighbours posting updates on boards about it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,673 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

By “sticking out”, presumably you mean blocking the footpath, intended for pedestrians, wheelchair users, parents pushing buggies?

    Stay off the footpath, FFS.

i will take my chance on this. Much appreciated your reply however if my updates disturb you please do not read them.

Thank you. There are cameras everywhere. Most of the neighbours have cctv and are aware of the nature of my neighbours and the situation, some of them adjusted the motions zone. Local gardai are aware as well.
