    Hi everyone


    just wondering does anyone have any experience with the above cars and what kind of range do

    you get on the plug in?


    i have also thought about the baby Range Rover but the price and the reliability have heard a lot of issues with range rovers but they look nice …..


    Budget is 55 to 65


    would love to go full plug in but the better 1/2 said I can’t have a fully electric car sadly

    What’s the use case? Typical daily mileage and load carrying etc?

    its for myself a man,


    use case, live in a city with public transport right outside my door that drops me to my office,


    but evening driving about the city, pick up the better 1/2 from work which is also in the city


    weekend drives and up to my home town which is about 80km away


    two people and two small dogs

    If buying new, there’s an all new x1 just out which has two phev offerings 25/30e. Range in electric is much better than the older model and the countryman

    the country man would be older design and I’m pretty sure is due to be replaced next year.

    Genuinely I’d at least try a full electric if possible. They are brilliant and ideal for that kind of driving. Happy owner of an ID.3 here. Something like a Q4 e tron might suit you. You’d never have to stop at a smelly fuel station again if you can get a home charger installed.

    Have the Countryman PHEV, ordered the iX1 as a replacement. The Countryman replacement on the new X1 platform isn’t expected to deliver until late 2023/early 2024. The existing Countryman is fun if a bit heavy. Electric range is abysmal 25-35km max depending on weather. Fuel tank is tiny too @ 35L. Also thirsty enough on fuel (8-11L/100km real world). Lugging around the battery pack (car weighs in the 2 ton range) with a tiny 3 cylinder petrol. It’s rather quick for its weight tho.

    The new X1 PHEV is meant to have more than double the EV range making it somewhat better. The price difference to get to iX 1 isn’t that bad, and personally I much prefer the driving characteristics of the electric motor so that made the decision. Range per EV DB looks acceptable and Ireland is small to be fair.

    Yah I will be buying new as no value in 2nd hand cars in Ireland

    i would love fully electric but not going to happen a lot of disagreements of me, she blames her firend not being able to charge her car in her house fast, I am like it’s like that because she has no charger fitted to the house and is depending on Tesco car parks to charge her car !!!!, she has a VW ID3 and was shocked quite and nice it was to be in.

    but I can fit a charger to my own house with no issues as I have a drive way that will fit a jeep

    Nearly everyone has told me to go fully electric based on my driving as I won’t be using the car for work as I have no parking …..


    my eye is on the X1 seen one in person and liked it a lot

    Are you the one paying for the car? If so buy an EV with your money.

    It sounds like you don't do any big km trips so it would suit you perfectly.

    I don't have a driveway, so can't get a homecharger.

    Plus, even if keen on iX1 (and I am), it will be over a year to get one.

    So, the X1 PHEV suits my city-based driving, but how should I charge? Any advice please?

    Granny cable from the hall or outdoor socket if you have one. If you can’t install a charger, charging a plug in likely going to be challenging too.

    I have a PHEV and home charger. It makes life easy to have one or to have convenient work charging as they should to be charged regularly to get the full experience. I charge it every second day. However, my neighbour also has a PHEV and he was plugging in from the hallway as @fits described above for the first couple of weeks of ownership. He doesn't do that anymore. Tried to persuade him to get a home charger. He drives the car like an ordinary hybrid and still loves it.

    From my experience, when charging is easy, you will do it, when it is an inconvenience, that is less likely.

    Regular granny cable use from an outside socket would surely be the best way to go for a small battery PHEV?

    Didn't find it a hassle to keep a 40kwh BEV topped up all summer on one, so a PHEV must be straightforward indeed.
