Home Heating Oil = Kerosene?

Sorry for a completely daft post...

I've ordered home heating oil, but after a 2-week wait it'll likely only be here in about a week's time. The lady suggested I just top up at a filling station and get kerosene.

As this is not something I'm accustomed to, I have to ask, is this the same as home heating oil? In other words, I can safely use it as a top-up until they deliver (whenever that may be)?

I have no idea why Kerosene is referred to as heating oil in ireland but it mostly is, though I believe some older systems might actually burn diesel. Pop the lid off your tank and take a sniff, then pop down the petrol station and buy whatever your nose identified.

I'm trying to track down the manual for the installed unit and will see if it specifies anything to the contrary. Definitely not diesel.
