Over the water

This is slightly OT but it may be useful for some.

With the ongoing PSNI recruitment issues, some candidates may wish to consider applying for a force in GB as an alternative.

The issues facing the PSNI with recruitment are not replicated over the water. Almost all the 43 forces are recruiting on an ongoing basis, and there are usually three different entry routes; IPLDP (similar to what the PSNI offer, you don't need a degree), Degree-holder entry and Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship where you work towards a bachelor's degree whilst working.

I can say from first-hand experience, forces in GB are struggling to recruit enough people and it has never been a better time if you're wanting to get into the job. Turnaround times for applications are low and you could feasibly go from putting the form in to starting training in six months or less.

I have worked both sides (NI and GB) and am happy to answer questions. I won't go into the pros and cons between the two in this post, but if you're really wanting to become a Police officer then there are potentially jobs waiting for you right now in England/Wales.

    Points to note.

You can lateral transfer from the PSNI to GB Homr Office forces but there is no reciprocal agreement.

If you are serving in GB you have to aplly like everyone else. Do the full student officer training programme.

However your pension carries, your service carries (as long as there's no brrak in service) and you keep your equivalent pay scale. And you generally won't have to serve a probation. However yoir 3 year commitment to district most likely will apply unlesa you have specific skills.

Basically. Given how long this process might actually be for some of you guys you might be able to go to GB, do your probation get sone experience and still get in to the PSNI with this campaign and if you don't liek the PSNI you then have the option to lateral transfer back.
