    Hi All,

I would like some of your thoughts/experinces on getting a lighting consultant to develop a plan for a lighting scheme for a new build?

We are in the process of building and are wondering if we should spend the additional money and if it will be worth it, in terms of atmosphere and comfort.

    Thanks.

Hard to comment really, but, worth it if you can afford it!

Seems excessive just for lighting for a house. You'd possibly be better with a full interior designer. Lighting would be one part of their scope, but they'd also be helping you to design all finishes and furnishings and making sure they all work in harmony together.

I wish I’d gotten some specialist advice in ours. Nothing drastic but it’s not right.

Had you looked at any or priced some? My Mrs follows some woman in the UK who charges £250 per room

Same here. I rebuilt the return on my house (kitchen and bathroom) and the lighting is a constant irritation, I made a complete arse of it.

Both are small, so not sure they'd have been worth hiring a consultant for - but if I was doing it again I'd definitely look for some advice from someone who knows about these things.

I have only got one quote back for the time being, awaiting others but it was €1250. Seems like a lot of money but trying to establish if it is worth it. Seems like it is can be cause for some iritation if not done right.

And hard to correct if you get it wrong.

What other professionals have you engaged? Who is designing the house?

I often work on projects that have lighting designers, typically larger commercial projects. They certainly add a value, but that would only really be a benefit after the architecture and interior architecture is sorted.
