Hi, I moved house earlier this year and the house came with a Gazco Riva 67 inset gas stove. There is a Calor Gas tank in the back garden but it’s empty. I was wondering if these units are any good or should I just get a similar sized wood burning stove?

I have a similar unit running off Natural Gas. It's great when it's running, but it tends to be unreliable and needs a lot of attention. So if it was me I'd stick with it as long as it is running. When or if it starts to give you trouble then maybe consider replacing. They are quite efficient.

The cost of Calor gas per kwh is another issue. I reckon you are paying more for your energy compared to Natural Gas, Oil or even solid fuel. That might be a reason to consider replacing it. I'm sure you can Google 'energy cost' for various different fuel types, this will help you make your decision.

See here - Gazco are an excellent company and this is a fairly high efficiency unit - around 75%, which is far higher than the 38% or so typical of a low end gas inset. Its over 4kw too, whereas these other units are typically max 2.9kw. Get an RGI to have a look at it and give a view. Personally it would depend on what heating you are using for the rest of the house, but its definitely a good model. Have your chimney looked at also.
