Music acts that many people wouldn't know are still going

While watching MTV the other night, I stumbled across this new video from the Black Eyed Peas who took a long break in the early 10s. I then learned they've released three albums in the last 4 years.

Any other well known music artists many wouldn't be aware are still releasing music?

As a musical artist and if you take a hiatus, it better be on the back of a good album and followed up with another…you might otherwise lose momentum.

i think too most artists have a shelf life, from a creative standpoint and as regards public interest.

one band I hadn’t heard of in aeons is the Manic Street Preachers. But released a record last year. Were touring too.

How were they ? In the late 90’s they were headlining Glastonbury… to now supporting acts… weird. Some fall from grace.

all in their mid 50’s now, probably just picking and choosing their paydays.

Sha Na Na are still going. Many won't even know who they are but they were the band at the high school dance in Grease but they were also one of the acts at Woodstock and were loved by the crowd.

The Pale - haven't heard of them in years, walked into a pub in kilkenny last night and there was a poster for an upcoming gig - the last gig of a nationwide tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of their debut album ‘Here’s One We Made Earlier’.

I used to love that band - turns out they've had a number of albums since that debut and had a best of released last year.

I remember them in their early 90s heyday when they were three bald guys, they were kind of famous for their image just before that shaved head look went mainstream. Dropped off the radar till about mid 00s when I remember seeing a picture of them in an article. Just one of the original bald guys plus a woman and another guy I didn't recognise.

They had a bit of a “comeback” a few years back, in that one of their albums was well received and they played a few shows.

Used to bump into Matt around Temple Bar a fair bit in the late 90’s/early 00’s. Sound chap.

Yes is still playing gigs after 54 years: no original members left, one guy from 1970, one from 1980, the rest from the 2000s. Videos I've seen in recent years are not great, to be honest.

The Hollies (with 2 original members) have toured every year for the last 60 except for a couple due to the pandemic

I'm due to see Slade (formed 1966 with one original member, Dave Hill) in a couple of weeks time, with The Sweet (again one original member, Andy Scott) the night before

In the past 3 and a half years I've seen 5 performers still performing in their 80s, and another 68 in their 70s (although 2 of them have since died)

A lot of acts have reformed/started touring again following the pandemic. Saw Manic Street Preachers supporting the Killers in Coventry earlier this year

The bits about ‘some fall from grace’ (they are still doing better than 99% of bands) and holding out for ‘paydays’ (they are hardly living off past glories, as their recent material is amongst their best, and if anything more uncompromising than the late 90s material).

Sparks, formed in 1972 and are still recording and touring.

They've just finished their most commercially successful world tour and their last two albums are regarded as being among their best.

They're releasing another album next year and are touring again, their two shows for the Royal Albert Hall in May have already sold out.

Ron is 77 and Russell is 74

If you can, have a look at The Sparks Brothers documentary.

It was on Netflix, not sure if it's still there?

I saw them in Berlin this year and they were fantastic, I have my ticket for the RAH in May.

Saw them in the academy a few years back, just took a punt but shît, they were very good….always had 10/12 very good songs and could play live too which I guess you can’t properly appreciate till you see em.. .
