Bus Route History Question

Hi, would anybody know of any sites where you can find dates that certain CIE bus routes started?

My friends Father told me he was on the first No. 8 bus to Dalkey sometime in the early 50's and was asking if there is any way to find out exact dates, would any of you know?

All those low numbered buses were trams at one stage and the routes are often very similar still to this day.

The 4 only started in the mid 00s, the 1 was originally a tram but didn't go to Santry, the 6 was only introduced just over a year ago and the 9 was a replacement for the 19 which was a tram but not numbered the 9.

Grand, I rephrase the above then to low numbered bus routes are very often renumbered tram routes with modifications or extensions over time.

Somewhat of a tangent, but it always intregued me why the first 2 underground lines in Munich were the U3 and U6 (opened 50 years ago this year for the olympics) and not U1 U2 like in other cities BUT its for the same reason, the trams which ran north/ south through the middle of the city were the 3 and 6 so the underground line that replaced them took that number!
