    Hi All

Niamh Smith joined us originally as part of the Boards Deals team before moving into her home of over 11 years as Community Manager, Boards.ie ... During that time Niamh steered the Boards.ie community with a calm, balanced and good natured presence which will now be sorely missed as she moves to pastures new.

It is no secret that the past year has been a difficult one for us at Boards and safe to say one we would not have go through without Niamh. I have been very fortunate to work with Niamh in the early years of Distilled+Boards and now again over the past few years - it has been an absolute pleasure, you will be greatly missed but an exiting opportunity lies ahead and I know you will make a massive success of it.

So please join me in wishing Niamh all of the best in her future endeavours. I am sure we will see her popping up in conversation but this time with her civvies on :).

    Thanks Niamh...

I would also like to introduce you all to @Boards.ie: Mike. Mike is taking over from Niamh as Community Manager and has been working hard over the past few weeks to absorb 11 years of Boards tips and tricks... no pressure Mike. Please join me in welcoming Mike, say hello and wish him all the best in his new role.

    Odhran

Thank you, Odhran. I'll miss Boards and a lot of the members who use it, it's been a fun and interesting time! I've learned so much in all that time not just from my work but also from reading extensively on Boards - some things I wish I could unlearn but that's the internet for you 🤣

Boards is such a great community. The time that users, mods and admins put into it and how people connect with and help each other when they have the opportunity to is always a reminder of why the Boards community is still here and will be here for some time to come. The advice on here is invaluable. This is something I wrote a few years ago when I was asked to describe Boards from a community perspective and I believe it is all still true today:

    All life is here.

Boards.ie is a gathering place. It’s where people come to talk, ask for advice or help and to socialise.

Users come to Boards to discuss everything from politics to sport, hobbies, current affairs, family and to ask questions about personal problems, how to fix things, what’s a good bargain, my car is making a funny noise what will I do - everything. Our regional forums are like a local notice board where members come to find out what is happening locally from nearby users.

Boards is a reflection of reality. People have met great friends and their life partners through Boards; they’ve married, had babies, been divorced. Members have been ill, have died or have lost loved ones and they have posted on the site through it all. Boards has a unique finger on the pulse of the Irish psyche and how the public feel about current issues. In time this becomes a historical archive of a moment in time.

That has nothing to do with me/us and thanks only to you the users ❤️

I have to also say a thank you to those who helped me along the way, my previous work colleagues and co-community managers Darragh, Dav, Nicola and Mark and also the very best of luck to Mike in his new role - please be nice to him, he's a great guy :)

I'm here for another couple of weeks (til Friday 2nd Dec) so if you need anything from me, please feel free to drop me a PM or an email and I'll do my best to help.

    Niamh.

    Hi all,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and say Hello!

As Odhran mentioned I have been shadowing Niamh over the past few weeks trying to tap into her vast amount of knowledge and experience that she has gained here in her 11+ years. She will of course be a massive loss to the team here but I'm sure we will still see her in conversation. I have some big boots to fill... so, there is a little pressure there:) But I'm looking forward to working with and meeting everybody.

    Mike

As usual, I'm late for the proverbial party.

Thanks for everything, Niamh! I remember this very exchange when you were stepping in. It's as if it was only... wait, time really is flying...

Welcome, Mike! Fill those shoes and solve every problem across the website, pronto! It'll be easy, right? Riiiiiight? :)
