Building close to the party wall

Our neighbours built adjacent to party wall a few years ago. Now we are thinking one story extension out the back and thinking the same, just build against the party wall.

However, it juts in 10 cm after about 3M and concerned then your blockwork also will have to. So I was thinking to just build in a straight line and leave a gap of 10cm along the first 3M of the party wall. Disadvantage with this, it's very hard to plaster and make weather proof. And it is a bad idea to leave a gap this small. So wondering would it better to just use a wider brick for this part or fill it will small little stones and then weatherproof the top. Anyone any good ideas?
