The strangest part of that is that it's those kids who were allowed to run wild and free who have become the helicopter parents. Pendulum has swung the other direction.

Visiting people, hanging around for a few hour while parents talked sh1te around a coffee table with a branded ashtray. Then it would be time to leave and they'd stand there another half an hour chatting by the front door or by the car

Driving to Courtown in an old Renault, with 6 kids in the back , no need for seat belts and half a ton of food strapped to the roof of the car.

Buying a PC and it came with 20 floppy discs with all the drivers. And the manual had all the circuit schematics for the motherboard in case a repair shop needed to replace one of the components

Also, trying to figure out what IRQ address your sound card is on, and getting it wrong so every time you pressed a key the sound got interrupted

That basically happened to me last weekend, took 6 attempts to leave my mum's gaff

Didn't have the ashtray I'll concede, she finally quit a few years ago

On second thoughts, accepting that job in Facebook Dublin wasn't a great career move.

Adjusting the "tracking" in a vain attempt to improve the visual quality of an old VHS tape.

They probably won't fire you twice, but I guess it has to be something that no-one is likely to experience again, and Facebook still exists

However I think "working at Twitter" might make the list in the next year or so...

-Collecting the fyffes banana stickers to send off for some **** toy

-A ring in the barm brack at halloween

-An actual toy in the cereal box that you wouldn't have to download an app for

-All the effort of cutting the token off the milk carton, having thousands saved up in the cupboard only to be too afraid to spend them

    -No seatbelts in the backseat

-Not realising someone was a raging alcoholic

-Being in the sacristy alone with the local priest (nowhere safer than there..)

I'll have you know the family business that my parents recently retired from used a fax, and I've used paper maps myself; and I do mean actual paper maps, not just for RPGs.

Checking all your computers and electronics are Y2K compliant and celebrating the turn of the millennium

Favourite mixtapes getting chewed in a cassette player, then having to free the mechanism

Paying by credit card where the shop uses a manual sliding card imprinter, then signing the transaction

Making a reverse charge call via a telephone operator while on holiday to call home

    •Getting drunk on £10.

•A box of ten cigarettes could be got for £1.50 or twenty for £3.20.

•Rural pubs hopping every Friday and Saturday night and all day sessions every Sunday.

•School lunches of bovril in a flask, a carton of milk and jam sandwiches.

The goonies and movies like it being made and shown to kids like me in the late 80's wouldn't happen. You had what? a faux suicide, fat shaming, a penis and drugs joke and a sex dungeon mentioned in the first 10 minutes ! ! ! I'd easily let my girls watch that vs the shite thats being made these days.

There might be some good stuff about if you search. Not like the 70's,80's or even 90's when we were bombarded with trend setting, sometimes society changing bands.

Soon as music became free production values were lost and nobody was there to nurture those weird kids who could sing and play the banjo.

I'm sure videoplus codes are still a thing, the Christmas RTE Guide was probably the last time i saw one, but still...

also, the ring in the brack hasn't gone anywhere, yet. (probably only a matter of time)

That original Electric Picnic vibe from 2005 to about 2014/15, we'll never get that back now.

People sitting through a film, concert or any public event and actually watching it instead of recording it on their phones.

    One recent example being..

Running memmaker 10 times in a row in DOS just to eek out the 10k EMS RAM that was the difference between your new computer game running and not.
