I know the programme was a bit naff but how has the national lottery got away with killing this staple of Saturday night tv viewing in Ireland.

Bridie and her blue rinse proudly sporting a lovely new frock for the occasion. PJ up in Dublin for the first time since Cavan played in an All Ireland final. The excited in-laws screaming their hearts out hoping their future inheritance was going to be boosted. The silky smooth Marty Whelan conducting the orchestra.

It struck me the other day as I saw someone buying a scratcher in the shop that there must have been five punters all lined up for their big night out with a chance of spinning the wheel in March 2020 who had their big night on the TV snatched away.

Its a pure scandal that it hasn't returned. There should be a tribunal in Dublin Castle!

Its RTE that have delayed/canned it, not the Lottery - they can't compel RTE to show it.

I think the people who were due to go on probably got sorted in some kind of remote/No audience game.

Going forward I believe if it does return it won't be televised and you go the National Lottery head quarters and it might be streamed.

The bigger scandal would be inflicting that awful programme on the rest of us again. Good riddance to it.

a lot of the prize money would come from the peak Friday night advertising revenue.

a lot of its viewers are older too, like my folks watch it and while they are ok with most tech, fûcking around to get tv shows on various apps would likely be not doable until shown a few times.

I did a survey a few months back on the scratch card design. Generally when you do one it appears in the shops in the next few months. Going by what it said it looked like they were going down the route of no TV program but they could always change.

If memory serves me correct it was filmed early on Saturday afternoons to avoid some of the contestants and audience members getting completely banjaxed with booze.

I got the impression it could be done on Friday or Saturday from people who were on it. Even without alcohol I'd say a lot of them would do you're head in.

We'd be a family that would buy a few scratch cards ever now and then but we used always dread my father getting three stars in Winning Streak just encase he got called out. It would be a nightmare from getting him to behave on TV, family feuds on who to bring, etc I don't think we'd make banners.

It's a good time for RTE to find an alternative to fill the slot. Something like UK version of The Wheel, I can hear your voice etc.

However, it would probably be an epic fail unfortunately.

Not too long ago they reshowed 'Ant & Dec’s Limitless Win' a week or so after each show was on in the UK, it was similar to reshowing a football match in full a week after it happened. Having a live web cam of the River Liffey for an hour would have been a better use of broadcasting capacity at peak time on a Saturday evening.

What are you on about? The prize money was Lottery funded. It had to be, under the terms of the scratch card sales licence.

I believe most did not bring banners.

On arrival, all the paints, markers and crayons were shoved at them along with RTE generated hysteria, leading to the most humble of people to start making a banner.

Family holding up big banners of encouragement in the audience as if it's actually a game of skill.

Everything filmed a few weeks beforehand but Marty pretending it's live.

I used to crack up at the ones roaring out numbers for poorbold seamus to pick as he tried to choose between 1 and 6 in a random lottery 🤣🤣
