hi does anyone have specific info on the variants on the go at the moment?

OH has it - symptoms started last Thurs so he's on day 4 of isolation now..

He had a sore throat but now he feels fully better..

He's the best patient - totally isolating - but as he no longer has symptoms, I'd love to know whether or not he would be contagious at this point?

And never mind the HSE guidelines.. they don't tell us the specifics of the variants.. close contacts don't have to isolate just be careful - doesn't mean one might not be contagious or otherwise etc.. we just gotta live with it..

Are people still actually isolating? We’ve moved on from that nonsense by now surely?

    Interesting you call it nonsense.

I contracted covid again last week and it is really rough. It is worse than any flu I ever had. It drags on too.

I'm doing my best not to pass it on, especially to the elderly.

Stick on a mask is a good idea at minimum and avoid the office. In Ireland a lot of folks coughing on the busses with no masks, didn't learn anything obviously .

Do a rapid test, if negative should not transmit.

It is the quietest in the long time as regards new variants. There may well be but not not much out there.

Remember, the guidelines now are 7 days from when you got symptoms, not from when you tested positive, so if you had a scratchy throat 4 days ago for example, today is your last day.

    How long to self-isolate

You should self-isolate (stay in your room) as soon as you notice symptoms of COVID-19 or get a positive COVID-19 test result.

Self-isolate for 7 full days, including day 7 itself.

Start from the date you first had symptoms. If you do not have symptoms, it's 7 days from the date of your first positive result.

You can stop isolating after 7 days if your symptoms are fully or mostly gone for the last 48 hours.

It's OK to stop self-isolating even if you have a mild cough or changes to your sense of smell – these can last for weeks after the infection has gone.
