Beef Feed Supplier?

Email with another price rise yesterday from the mill where I usually order Meal and Beef Nuts delivered by the pallet, I'm estimating now that a Pallet (1.75T) will be near 900euro. 8 price rises in the last 2 years. And last Spring, the Mill's rep announced that he will accept the order etc but I would then need go to the nearest merchant to pay for the order and thus therefore eliminating any discount that was been gained as the merchant charges the full amount whether its for the 1 bag or the 70 bags / pallet and yet the pallet never went into their yard!!

So with that in mind, is there anyone here in the North Longford, Roscommon, South Leitrim area getting feed delivered by the pallet direct from the mill and if so which Mill?? I generally just get 1 pallet delivered at a time but am open to getting 2 pallets delivered if it is more preferable by some suppliers.

A merchant might give you a discount if you were buying from them? It would certainly be worth pricing a few to see anyway, as opposed to just pricing mills.

Have you a way of transporting the pallets. If so you could phone Drummonds and arrange to collect what you want from them. They have depots in Dromone near Oldcastle and the took over Flynns in Mullingar.

Edit to add - they sell meal in bulk bags also although the small bags may suit you better.

Not to many merchants around locally and the few that are local, say they cant budge on the price at all.

Why don't you get a couple of jfc or tipsy bins. They save you a fortune long term. Go to your mill fill up loose meal which is about 20e a ton cheaper than bags.

I used to bring a JFC bin to the local merchant in a small car trailer. But then I realised they deliver big white bags! It’s around 600-700kg per bag and you pay the per-ton price.

They probably genuinely can’t budge on the price. To be fair to them a pallet wouldn’t exactly be a big order and the delivery of one pallet costs them the same as delivering 10 pallets. The lorry, driver, forklift and diesel is costing the same no matter what the amount is. If you could pair it up with a few neighbours that ye are all getting delivery on the same run it might help.

I brought two in an 8x5 but with work I just didn't have the time. I got a five ton bin a few years back saving time on Saturdays to do other work. Bins fit under the bin now.
