Hey Guys, I am ready to book a trip to OZ for my 40th next August. Looking to leave last week of July and come back last week of August. Just wondering how long do you need to allow to transfer in say Dubai or Doha? Some are 1Hr 50Mins but ive been caught before in Frankfurt and this wasnt enough time and missed my connection. Some are 20hrs wait which is obviously mental. Just wondering the safe amount to allow for a safe transfer?

I'm flying to Vancouver via Toronto on monday and our wait for the on ward flight is 3 hours, which i think is grand because it leaves abit of time in case ya get delayed amd also to stretch your legs in the airport while waiting, i know this because my last trip to Canada was March 2019 from Dublin to Heathrow and then on to Vancouver, that time slot was 90 minutes and that wasn't enough time but my flight out to Heathrow was delayed this end due to high winds so maybe it will be a little different for you but do leave about 3 hours between connecting flights :)

If your flying from Dublin or Shannon preclearance is done before you depart Dublin etc also the new runway is only active for a selected time unfortunately i don't know the times exactly but roughly 7am to 1pm but by next year it should be active all the time

You should be fine with those Qatar flights via Doha. A lot of my friends and family have gotten those and never had any issues.

Just going to flag that the weather in July and August can actually be a bit shite in Australia as it's their winter.

Flying to Perth in 2 weeks and a bit worried about the first transfer.

Dublin to CDG France and only one hour to make the transfer to the Singapore flight, same terminal so hopefully not too bad.

CDG is the worst airport in the world for transfers. When you say same terminal, do you mean both are terminal 2 or both are terminal 2e section k for instance?

Anyway if booked at one flight they will get you on the next available flight if needed, but technically you have enough time.

An hour in CDG in the same terminal should be fine. I had only a 45 minute stopover in CDG, both ways, on my last trip. Same terminal as well. The way over we were actually 40 mins delayed on leaving, but still made it to the airport 20 mins before the next flight’s departure, so managed to make it. The way back, we left on time and arrived early enough that I had time to grab a coffee before boarding opened.

Those short flights usually land a bit early in my experience (although they can go for a bit of a scenic drive around the airport in CDG when they land).

I was a bit worried about my luggage not following me if we were delayed (as has happened before in CDG), so I only brought carry on. Probably not feasible for a trip to Perth, but just get yourself there any maybe get some AirTags or similar for your check in.

If you’re running late on the first leg, ask the staff on the plane where exactly you have to go for your next flight - they’re super helpful and will direct you happily.

If booked on one ticket, they will get you on the next 'available' flight - which might not be the 'next' flight.

Doha is a breeze of an airport to get through. Qatar have set the transfer times so you will be grand!

1.5 hours is plenty of time for transfers at either location. Some connections can be 2.05 hrs. The connecting flight will most likely wait for you,if you buy a through ticket i.e. with same airline at the same time. If you are travelling Dublin direct to the Gulf that time is adequate. Going via England or other European airport I'd allow more time but as you say that could mean anything up to the next day for the connecting flight.

If I was you I would take the 20-hour stopover (or even a 2 day), stretch your legs and get a breather before the marathon leg from the Middle East to Oz. 24 hours solid flying can be quite a mind numbing event!

Alternatively, I would transit through Bangkok, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur instead of the ME, at least that splits the trip into 2 halves
