Lots of women have had issues in broad daylight in completely open public spaces. Let's not make toilets a big deal 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,453 ✭✭✭Airyfairy12

Thats exactly why these spaces are needed, we are making toilets a big deal when we make them gender nuetral, they wearnt a big deal before this. Ive had a man follow me to the bar from a gender neutral toilet to tell me he heard me taking a p!ss, & with a creepy look on his face stared at me for the rest of the time I was in the bar. Unfortunately there are lots of creepy men, I wouldn't have had that experience had the toilets been single sex.

"Lots of women having issues in broad daylight" isn't a very logical reason to take away women only spaces. Most women wont go out alone at night or walk down a secluded alleyway & avoid taking risks with their personal safety but are also expected to use gender neutral changing rooms & toilets, a small secluded space where anyone can walk in unchallenged??

There are a lot of creepy men! I agree. I was one night, grabbed twice by the crotch by 2 different men, in the middle of a busy bar.

But, Tbf, I understand some people might feel uncomfortable, but I have been in plenty of restaurants in.Dublin that have gender neutral toilets, or.just toilets, where men and women use the facilities.

Having separate toilets doesn't stop anyone walking into any toilet they want. I actually went into the wrong toilets last month, when I came out of the cubicle there was 2men standing there, we all laughed at my mistake and I left. There is no law or invisible barrier stopping people walking into any toilet they want. But anyway, I don't mean to argue with you, you're completely entitled to your opinion! And I do understand, apologies for arguing!

None of that justifies gender neutral toilets.

When trying to change something as sensitive as this, you need to make very sure the changes aren't zero-sum. It's mostly an issue only in pubs and nightclubs where men have been drinking. If introducing GN toilets makes enbees and transgender individuals (about 0.5% of people) feel better but birth women (50% of people) unsafe, it's definitely not a good change to make.

In fact, with percentages like those at stake, the change wouldn't even be zero-sum - it'd be negative sum.

There used be a pub in Docklands Dublin pre-pandemic called Urban Brewing, the toilets were gender neutral with a shared sink. Women persistently complained and the toilets were converted into gender segregated.

Kinda glad this is Elton's last gig.

Also, not only is it effecting the safety of people, ive been in gender neutral toilets where the floor and seat was covered in piss in the cubicles. Its not fair that women will have to go into a public toilet and have to either accidentally sit on some mans piss, have to wipe it up before using the toilet or have the bottom of your skirt soaked. Its disgusting.

Ah now, this is ridiculous! I.have been in filthy.womens toilets! Seriously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭TokenJogger

Women and specifically feminism makes women nervous, on edge, read paranoid about men in public or private spaces when it's overwhelmingly men 75% ~ 90% who will be involved in some sort of altercation

It is vastly, vastly safer being a woman in a public or private space, widespread hysteria, paranoia and sexist misandry against men is to blame for the view that it's the other way around

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,453 ✭✭✭Airyfairy12

It couldn't have anything to do with personal experiences. Im not arguing this anymore. I stand by everything I said and didn't post here to argue, if you dont agree that's completely fine, you're entitled to your opinion but there are lots of women uncomfortable will this and will be effected in a negative way, whether you agree with that or not, you can gaslight and try to make people shut up all you want, it won't make a difference & people have every right to voice their concerns.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,391 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

It's ridiculous. To.suggest that having separate toilets are some How a big issue is crazy!

The amount of places I have been in that have shared toilet facilities, and never have there been a suggestion of any improper behaviour.

And even if there was, that can happen anywhere, men can walk into women only spaces/toilets if they want!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭TokenJogger

    That's not what I said

I agree with the female only spaces for the record

I said the fear women feel is unjustified* and is a vilification of men by those who obviously have a (sexist) bias against men

I agree with you, and we're entitled to hold that opinion without needing to argue it, that's the point of the thread. I don't even consider controversial tbh.

*I did counter one post here but I thought it was in the Wokism thread and I acknowledged my mistake.

    Tax the rich.

    Tax them to fuc.k

There should be no billionaires. There should be nobody who has more than 50 million worth of assets

Spend those taxes on public services

    I completely disagree.

The tax system should be applied fairly across the board. If a billionaire makes their money legitimately then I see no good reason why they should be treated differently from Jimmy citizen.

If you do it properly, you'll make more money attracting Billionaires then chasing them offshore where nobody gets anything.

The problem is with the rich people who make their money illegitimately. Hit them. No arguments there but people who makes large amounts of money whil playing by the rules are good in my view. In fact they should be encouraged.

We do this for multinationals and I see no good reason why individuals should be treated differently.

I'm sure this has been mentioned dozens of time already but Ireland needs to adopt a far better and more efficient immigration system.

It has an efficient immigration system. Europeans can come here to work, anybody else needs a critical skills visa?

No billionaire ever earned a billion legitimately.

Theres no such thing. If you think they have, I don’t believe you know what a billion is.

    To put it relatively:

    • A million seconds is 12 days.
    • A billion seconds is 31 years.

Judging by all the ululating and wringing of hands over Argos quitting Ireland. My opinion that they were utter incompetent clowns from start to finish (ever search for a product on their site?) seems to be a tad controversial.

I think a lot of those tech companies have earned their money legitimately. At least I don't see any obstacles for them not doing so. Depends on your definition of legitimate though. Certainly before the internet I would think your statement would be true.

The issue there isn’t the toilets, the issue there is the creepy fcuker who you imagine wouldn’t have followed you into single sex toilets, wouldn’t have followed you to the bar, wouldn’t have told you they heard you taking a piss, staring at you for the rest of the night.

They do, and single sex toilets are not the barrier you think they are to that sort of behaviour.
