RAGING

I said I'd treat myself to 4 used dresses off ebay altogether €60, thought I was getting a good deal. Then addresspal charges me €6.50 per item (€24) and then €10 each for postage and customs vat (€40), so all works out at €120 roughly 😭 I'm absolutely raging and will never be buying from ebay again

I feel your pain though. I had to pay hefty customs charges on stuff I got from AliExpress. I won't be using them again.

How come when I was ordering used womens clothes off the internet I was called a pervert? Double standards.

Although to be fair, it was unwashed underwear. And it actually cost me more to have the seller ring me up and call me that. It should really have been included in the price.

Are we supposed to feel sorry? Buy local, buy Irish.

3! Maybe we need a fourth, one for each dress.

    Also, €6.5 x 4 = €26 😋

Your problem was using AddressPal. The seller is sending it to a UK address so they don't have to do anything with VAT. AddressPal/An Post will always charge.

eBay say all charges are covered so get them delivered directly to Ireland and if you're charged, complain to eBay.

We're near two years into this boll*x, how are people still being caught out by it?

Hope after all the raging they fitted you

I buy as normal on ebay for most stuff. There is no customs for items under 150 euro, so I dunno how you got charged

''Rules for duty relief on low value consignments

You can import consignments of a value of €150 or less without payment of Customs Duty. Such consignments can be made up of one or multiple items.''

The OP was most likely paying just paying VAT, and the handling charge. A lot of people don't know then difference and just think that anything extra they have to pay is "customs".

They got their items shipped to a UK address (AddressPal), so if course eBay and the seller charged UK VAT - it was an internal UK shipment. Then they got AddressPal to export it for them to Ireland, so of course Addresspal had to collect Irish VAT, and charged for expense of doing so. The problem is the OP not knowing how the system works. Not eBay or the seller's fault.

And OP, the exact same thing can happen on Amazon if you buy from a 3rd party non-EU seller that ships the goods themselves and isn't registered for Irish VAT.

Always check if they have a European base before you order.

I've bought off Ali express loads of times, probably 50 at this stage, and I can only recall two times I had to pay customs.
