Irish Celebrities who work in Ireland but live somewhere else.

Angela Scanlan and Laura Whitmore etc. Not sure why but there is something that irritates me about this. Ireland is ok for them to work in but they prefer to live in London or America, Brendan Grace was the same. I think these people think they are too good for Ireland except when it comes to making a few quid, the UK and America and the other Countries they live have no interest in them.

He had the right idea. Show up, do a few gigs, then live somewhere where the sun shines, the taxes aren't **** and you won't be accosted by skangballs going "ah heeyoor Brenadaaan, do bottler gwan"

Ireland is fine but for bigger opportunities, people usually go abroad to places like the UK and US for more recognition and because there's better work to be found. Laura Whitmore has been working in the UK for years now as a presenter so it only seems natural for her to live there, and Angela Scanlon has been working in the UK too. Irish celebrities looking to make a big break usually move abroad.

Brendan Grace divided his time between Ireland and the US so I don't think he thought he was too good for Ireland, but Florida is nice and sunny and a nice place to retire to when you want to relax.

What a very strange thing to be irritated by.

"I think these people think they are too good for Ireland except when it comes to making a few quid" >> I'm not a psychologist but there's definitely some sort of inferiority complex or insecurity thing going on there OP.

We are a cold, damp rock on the periphery of Europe. Let's be honest, if you had the money you'd probably live somewhere a bit warmer. I know I would.

I'd do the same if I could.

Its global market. Welcome to 2022.

I do have the money to live somewhere else. I like to visit other Countries but like living in Ireland.

I'd chose Lisbon over cold, damp and stabby London.

    🙈🙉🙊

Totally agree. Having a morning coffee and one of those mini-custard tarts would be a great way to start the day. Only problem would be the language barrier.

London is a place I absolutely love visiting, but the day to day life there is a bit like living in a giant mechanical machine. It's also a nice place to get out of after a couple of days.

And if you were raking in a boat load of cash would you fork over a load of tax for Bertie Ahearne's pension.

If ya had the money? Haha I can't think of too many sunny climate countries that are dearer than Ireland.

Angela Scanlon has mainly worked for the BBC since 2015... so you don't have much a point there. Her credits since then are about 10:1 UK based versus Ireland.

The idea is that those warmer climes pay less usually.

What you need is an income like you get in Ireland, but you can spend it somewhere else. Tricky to do.

Always been the way, Jonny Giles has been flying over from England forever.

they flew Setanta back from Oz for Hell Week, some holiday for him.

Never knew that about Giles… Fûck between wages, expenses, ground transport, airfare etc… I presume he had to put in a snazzy hotel as he’d never get out to Dublin airport from Landsdowne/Aviva in time to make the last flight back to Leeds… great footballer in his day but hardly the most insightful pundit …

    guesstimates…

    200 : Hotel

Ground Transport : 200 ( to rte and back, airport and back, hotel and back )

Flight : 200 (incl lounge, priority boarding, priority security )

    Food : 200 expenses

    wages : ballpark 2000 ???

rounded up that’s 3000… add another 3000 for Brady, significantly less you’d have hoped for Dunphy who lives here.

roughly 10000 for the panel when you factor in the presenter.

That was the only person they could find who would sit next to Eamoan and Liamo without strangling them though.

You need to factor that in.

mebbe Scanlon's disgusted that someone with talent has to fekk off abroad for a TV gig, while numpties like Hobbidy are creaming it in. Not as if she's rich enough (could be, but doubt it) to live in a gated community here in Dublin; thereby able to avoid the hoi polloi, cos otherwise she would nae get a moment's peace without someone wanting a piece of her.

but likely reason be her having most of her work in UK
