Stocking lakes

Just seen something online about the government in certain places in different parts of the world stocking lakes with rainbow trout and brownies.

I think you can catch rainbow trout all year round, the brownies are from March until September obviously they'll be hatchery fish. So there's no fear of them interfering with nature and being a pest.

Imagine old lake's which are full of coarse fish, with regular stocks of trout. You could go down with your fishing rod and catch dinner now and again.

It would be great for a parent and kid's to get out of the house and learn how to embrace a new hobby . Fresh air, sport and a nice meal.

I've a cousin who has a man made lake on his farm fed by a small river , he's plenty of land to hunt on too.

Under no circumstances will he let me fish or shoot on his land , the bastard.

In the US most lakes are stocked yearly with native fish.Like Shad,perch,bluegill,and various bass.It's run by the Dept.of Wildlife and its always been a great initiative for folks to get outdoors and learn skills.They would hold familiy days and fishing contests throught the year.

I've noticed that in America and Canada where it's rural, fishing, hunting and bushcraft seems to be still going strong . Here it's not as popular as it once was.

I bought all my niece's and my nephew fishing rods last year and they all loved it. The joy on their faces when they were catching Rudd and Perch. The girls out fished the boy. They really enjoyed it.

It's good for memories and giving them the taste of the outdoors, catch and release fishing like coarse fishing to start them off on a lake. Then progress to the bubble and fly for trout. And if they want to try flyfishing with a fly rod they're teachable at a young age.

Women are great fly angler's, they have the finesse.

I know a woman, and if you seen her sea angling bait presentation and trace's and gentle pendulum cast. How she tunes her Abu 6500's, looks after her pair of zipplex she has them since the 90's She'd put any match angler to shame, she's in her 60's and still digging lug.

I suppose it depends on whether they'll interfere with the local trout competing for food. I mean those lake's which have no source of a stream or river, maybe mix them in with rudd,perck Pike etc

I wouldn't stock a mountain lake or somewhere like that.

Rainbow trout that come from hatcheries are generally sterile and can’t breed, there were a few lakes in Ireland where they bred naturally. Ironically some of the best fishing in the world is in areas where they are invasive species.

Brown trout from a hatchery that can be breed could be a more serious issue as supposedly in the wild mate selection is very important, obviously this was not part of the baby making process of hatchery raised fish.

Lol obviously you haven't a clue about fisheries and wildlife. I'm not talking about mixing these fish with wild fish in river's,streams or mountain lakes.

Have you heard of coarse fish and land locked ponds and lakes.

These stocked fish, cannot breed or multiply. They're barren.
