Material for above+ around stove in fireplace recess.

Hey there,

In our home (former owner) installed probably a fireproof plastarboard above a stove in a recess in living room, its all cracked and needs to be replaced.

What should I aim to replace with ? I read online not to use plastarboard even if it is fireproof, what should I be looking to buy ? - there is quite a bit of negative space inside so wouldn't be cementing it up etc. I am sure this is a simple question - just want to purchase the right stuff!

What will the finish be? Unless you tile it any finish will be combustible or at the least stink if it gets to hot.

Is it ok to pick up any type of tile or are there a certain type that are heat resistant etc ? I was looking online and see this fire resistant board:

Might just use that and paint over it ? Brooks said this was a suitable product. I read online somewhere that I might need this kind of thing: 'skamolex' panels.

Most paints will burn and stink. That's why tiling is recommended.

That skamolex looks fine if that's the finish which works for you.
