Any good kebabs in Cork

Had one in abakebabra today and it was only a piore joke. Fist of lettuce and breaded chicken fcuked into a bit of pita bread with a dollop of mayo. And to think they are now promoting a "naked" kebab where you don't even get the cheap 2c slice of pita bread with it ! Basically just lettuce and a few measily bits of chicken. Feck sake.

I remember having a nice lamb kebab in a wrap in Ali Baba a couple of years back, but haven't been back since. I think @the beer revolu says that they like the place on Coburg Street?

(TBH @Ubbquittious, I don't think Cork has much good kebab going on, from what I know. You might try Nosta, but that's more Cafe/Restaurant style).

One thing I have learned though, never get the lamb doner on a spit style from cheapo places (there are many in Cork City).

The quality of the meat they use is so poor, and full of bits of bone. I lost a filling from it once. I wouldn't want to think about the animal welfare that poor lamb was raised in. Spend your € wisely :/

Yup, I quite like Crazy Kebab on Coburg Street.

I'm not going to claim that it's authentic or fantastic but I kinda like their chicken donner. The lamb donner is, well, typical lamb donner meat. They are huge and cheap, too.

Polish run and they serve nothing else apart from chicken and lamb donner!

Village Inn in Mayfield. Best kebab by miles and you could feed a family of 5 from it. Run by Pakistanis so the real deal.

I called it that as that's what the guy says when you walk in welcome to shítty Kebabs may I take your order.

I have done before and they turned out OK, but never as good as a good kebab from the shop

That's done with lamb mince though, so more like a meatloaf. I like the layered/shaved texture of proper lamb doner, and the cooking method helps too, so you get a mix of crispy/smokey/oily...

It's an odd spot, for sure.

You wouldn't be going there for the ambiance or the chat, like!

Some people think it's rubbish but it a kinda guilty pleasure for me. Not had one since pre Covid, I think. Might have to fix that!

Try the Syrian place up near Shandon for more quality kebabs. They have kofte, shish, shawarma etc. Sort of a "deconstructed" kebab. you get all the doin's on a plate but you can wrap it up in their yummy Syrian bread.

That's how every kebab shop I've ever known serves kebabs - on a plate like this or in a sandwich/wrap/pitta/flatbread.

Why would the contents of a kebab on a plate with chips and bread be horrible??

Yeah Crazy Kebab seems to have closed recently. And I never got to have a last kebab!

Looking for good early bird / discounted lunch pre 5pm menus this sunday. Any good value ones?

From what I've found: Bocelli does a lunch menu, Coriander in Ballincollig, and Nosta.

Would like to spend under 20 a head. Any recommendations?

Went to the Istanbul today and it was nowhere as good as it used to be. Food was cold when it came out, didn't taste anywhere as good as it used to and the 2 beours with me both had to go to Fast Als to get real food. Fierce disappointing

I did sometimes find the doner meat a bit cold if it was sitting for a while after being cut. But that's a pity about the overall experience.

Now that I'm living on Western Road, has anyone tried the local kebabs in places like Ignite, Iqraa's or Lavish?
