HOD is like Shakespeare compared to ROP

Sadly I can't change it now anymore, or is it possible?

I find it more interesting to ask some more questions, than just asking which one is better. In the boards you can create only one poll question unfortunately.

What for would I do that? :)

To sell it to the russians?

What do you think about the other upcoming projects, like Ten Thousand Ships or the Jon Snow Show?

Even though House of the Dragon has a lot of problems as well, it's still a lot better than The Rings of Power. Rings of Power does not have the heart and the poetry the orginal one have (and I am also not the biggest fan of the peter jackson films but they captured some of that), it just feels like a product + fan service. The execution should have been much better by all the money involved. Amazon can't buy everything.

The acting is terrible in ROP. It's a bit better in HOD.

HOD is way better. sad to say after loving LOTR.

even taking the 2 shows as standalone, ROP should have nailed it. talk about an open goal with unlimited cash and a rich lore to build from.

the dialogue is awful, nothing is every explained, pacing and progression is not there, the harfoots are just hard to watch, the useless warrior elves except for galadriel is stupid. what is the strength of an elf in this show? all cannon fodder it seems. so many needless stupid scenes; think we've had 2 now of slow mo riding on a horse with face close up. 'sauron' losing his apple. its just ****.

    anyway, ROP is terrible.

The acting is not the only thing terrible about The Rings of Power. 😊

Galabriel seemed useless to me too, all she really does is spitting out some schmaltzy pretentious lines by giving dramatic facial expressions.

Now that both series finished it's first season, people might have a more accurate opinion on which they liked better.

Both enjoyable but for different reasons.

Rings Of Power is a bit more exciting and fast paced but the writing is absolutely dreadful as is a lot of the acting. The cinematography is superb for the most part

HOD is slow at times and quite dull at (could have been condensed to 8 episodes really) but it's much better written and acted and some of the episodes are superb (episodes 1 and 8). At times it feels like a Shakespearen drama in terms of dialogue and acting

HOTD is much better, the writing is excellent. ROP is uneven, some of the action is pretty good and it looks great but the story is a bit all over the place and the harfoots are terrible

The queen in HOD didn’t age a day and almost looks younger in ep9 than the start which must be 25 years before

Which Queen are you referring to - and be careful for your answer will show your loyalties.

    The red haired queen

They changed the actress half way through to reflect time passing. It's Olivia Cooke in 2nd half of the series (she's 28 years old and gorgeous by the way). The original actress was a teenager.

The chap who got his eye out looks a similar age but anyway no complaints she adds a lot to it 👀

Rings of Power has some nice shoots yes, but they are mostly ruined by the bad editing and fast cuts.

Rings of Power is watchable but there isn't a single worthwhile metric by which it beats House of the Dragon - acting, script, characters, plot, are all vastly superior in HOD.

ROP has some lovely visuals, but they can't make a show, and they don't. Again, watchable, but considering what it should have been, it's very disappointing.

HOD, meanwhile, I expected nothing given the disgracefully bad final season of GOT, but it's very solid - up there with maybe the fifth and sixth season of GOT, though falls short of the incredible S1-4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 293 ✭✭Troyaferd

Agree it's up there with Seasons 5 and 6, it's hard to beat Seasons 1-3 or 4.

I don't enjoy HOTD at all, I really couldn't care less about any of the characters. If it wasn't a GOT spin off it would be canceled already.

ROP is better. Visually it's stunning and while it's slow moving and let down by poor dialogue at times, overall it's a good show. I think it would judged in a different light if it wasn't so expensive and based on much better source material. But as a stand alone TV show I think its decent.

RoP wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I found the first half of it fairly enjoyable, then it starts to fall apart a bit, but overall the lore butchering is an unforgivable crime.

HotD was superb and was better than RoP on every level.

I didn't like the last episode of HOTD, i see no way how they would let Otto go back to kings landing? The dragon fight was ridiculous too and also I don't get why Rhaenyra didn't search for allies before her father died.
