I used to enjoy Radio 538 Dance Department, given the lack of offering here.

More or less this with the world service getting more than an honourable mention. Eve Blair on the the late show on bbc radio Ulster is perfect if you just want to listen to something relaxing.

Radio 4 hands down. The app (BBC Sounds) is very user friendly, the content is endless and covers so many topics.

FIP Paris for work, or background in the kitchen.

Used to have BBC6 on an awful lot, but usually just weekends now. Craig Charles Funk and Soul show on Saturday evenings is a belter!

BBC talk radio generally, I listen to various bits on podcastsand Listen Again from Radios 4, 4 extra, 3 and World Service. 4 the most one so I guess that's my favourite.

I used to enjoy Power 105.1 Hip Hop radio from New York back in the day. Sadly no longer exists.

Also Dee 106.3 from my old days living in Chester. A nice balanced station playing a decent mix of music.

Trying this now. Seems pretty good, thanks for the recommendation.

As for myself it would be part BBC 6Music, part BBC R5Live, part BBC Radio 4 and sometimes TripeJ from Australia. Was trying a little bit of Bugaloo Radio from London, but its a bit hit and miss.

You can't beat a good Radio 4 Play.

LBC is good for UK news and politics chat. You get a mix of Nick Ferrari for the old grandad who just can't understand the modern world and James O Brien who is on the left. Then you have good analysis and chat from the likes of Andrew Marr. And podcast only shows like the News Agents.

To add to the OP's question I think its also worth asking how do you listen?

I'm still listening to BBC Radio 4 on good old steam driven Long Wave (on a Roberts radio of course) although occasionally resort to satellite when I've had enough of test match special.

In the past year or so:

    • BBC R6 Music
    • Absolute Classic Rock
    • Radio X

Mostly using either Roberts Stream 94i, or the older Stream 83i upstairs! Occasionally with TuneIn when out walking, though I should probably look into getting a better app.

I asked the question wondering how many others out there were using Roberts radios/devices and if anyone was still using LW.

I had a nice app on phone before which could get you anything globally, it was cool, I loved the African ones, the music they play is so different and orignal.

good question - at home we have Alexa in most rooms, so mostly via TuneIn on those.

In the car, the apps associated with each station

If you have an iphone, you can change the app store to UK and download the Radioplayer UK app. Handy having the UK stuff in the one app. Listen to 5 Live & Talksport a fair bit for the football.

BBC Radio 1 on Google Speaker, being able to play radio outside of Ireland is the number one selling point for a smart speaker!

Switch between BBC Radio 4, 5 and World Service. Mainly use a Roberts 936i but will listen via Sky receiver if sports geo-blocked.

I've given up on RTE Radio 1, can't take anymore of Claire Byrne's hairdresser radio or D'Arcy and his bumbling, Duffy is hanging on by a thread! After switching over to LBC before Xmas to listen in to James OBriens show it's given me a new perspective on how engaging and interesting a radio programme can be! I find myself now tuning into Nick Ferarri and Shelia Fogarty too.

Honestly, the only radio I listen to these days, if I have any choice, is BBC Radio 4.

Just incomparable quality programming whether it's news/current affairs, drama, odd little documentaries...

I listen to the 3 hour Today show most mornings, and I'd often either tune in or use playback to get World At One or Any Questions / PM.

The BBC app is very organised, and the podcasts are all available and better than most of what's on ITunes / Spotify. I really like In Our Time.
