Why do so many GAA clubs have crosses in their crest?

Well, your comments were worded in a way that left me with no doubt that they were anti-catholic, so perhaps you could word your posts in a less antagonistic manner in the future. Or maybe it is just that that you are unaware that some underlying anti-catholicism of yours comes across clearly and unintentionally.

I mean, why mention catholicism at all, why not mention christianity, as the cross is a christian symbol, not a specifically catholic one?

I sincerely apologise. I will sincerely try to word my posts in a way that you feel is less antagonistic in future. Would you be available to proof read all of my posts prior to posting from here on?

    Thank you

So why did you mention catholicism if you meant christianity? Please explain, I'm all ears.

Oh, and in what way is the GAA exclusionary?

Two simple questions, you should have no trouble answering them.

I didn't mean christianity. If I had meant christianity that is what I would have said.

I already posted about how the GAA was exclusionary in this thread.

Oh for goodness sake. The crosses weren't there to appease the Presbyterians 🙄

Oh, and in what way is the GAA exclusionary?

Ask any of the Tyrone players forced to attend mass or risk being dropped

That's before we even get into the clubs which glorify Provisional IRA slaughter.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

I've learned to take GAA crests and symbols with a pinch of salt. I believe Derry where I live should have included a red hand in their crest, there is one in the county coat of arms. North Derry was a sort of sub territory of the O'Neill and South Derry was under direct rule.

I remember reading that Laois call themselves O'Moore county even though some of the county wasn't ruled by the clan. As I said it is best to ignore it and focus on the sport.

Gaa should have alot more generic crests. There was a Club in Clare in up until the 1950s called the 'Fireballs' and they had a blazing sun as their crest or something. That was cool . The absolute crap we have of a tree or a gaelic football and a headstone or something...like it's dire stuff. 95% of Club crests are awful.
