It's just a random crapshoot, often ends like this, not a good advertisement for Motorsport, too contrived.

Ericsson was weaving to much down the back straight. He actually was loosing time I think.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,154 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

He went clear off the track too to break the tow?

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,057 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

I don't know, good to get a final racing lap, fair enough racing from Ericsson, did look a bit extreme with the weaving in front of the pit wall etc

I'm torn between these favouring one last green flag shootouts over 500 miles or finishing big races under yellow flag. The former definitely influences stupid last gasp driving in both Indycar and NASCAR

No problems with Newgarden winning the Indy 500 he is a great likeable champion who pulled himself into contention as the race went on without the fastest car all month, not his fault he placed himself 2nd spot with one lap to go

If Pato had a level head on him we would have won this today, he could have won 2 Indy 500s in a row with right decision making. Frustrating driver

Most of us were expecting it to end under yellow after that last one with 4 to go. We 100% thought that it was past the point at which a race could be stopped and restarted properly. Clearly 3 to go is still a red option when you can tell them to go green/white!

What a race , what an emotional roller coaster !! , from Rahals battery issues on lap 1 to a green / white flag and a deserved and emotional winner in Josef Newgarden.

I am happy the race didn't finish under a yellow , thought Ferruci might just pull it off.

Sour F1 grapes from Ericsson unfortunately, roll on Detroit !

And TK, what a class act

I'm just watching the highlights on YouTube, apologies if I offend any fans here but just wanted to see if I'm alone in this...

Does nobody else think the modern indycars are extremely ugly machines? They look fine from behind but from the front? That nose shape and wing, windshield, whatever those things are that almost cover the rear wheels. It's only a relatively recent thing, I never thought the older ones were ugly.

Honestly they go so fast at the 500 you don't really notice it, the only ones I got a good look at were the ones that crashed. They aren't as pretty as the current F1 cars and they all look identical but who cares, it doesn't matter. The racing was good. Anyone got a replay of Tony Kanaan's pass on the grass?

    Edit: found it

Whatever about the challenge, Detroit is one bleak looking circuit 😶

    Seven Worlds will Collide

This race could turn out to be a red flag / yellow flag spectacle.

A lot of bumps , blind corners , narrow corners , a double sides pit lane !!

As an aside funny video with TK (and Sons) tidying the grass he drove through on Sunday at Indy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,057 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

Must have a look, first time since the 90s they've used small part of downtown circuit... 2 corners

Only remember it from early f1 games and Alesi video

Edit: the pit exit looks like it's on the racing line, maybe not the best arrangement. Also the speed on the straight with the bump at the end looked tricky

Ha really... Oops. Yes Alesi never raced there so 😅

That pit area in detroit is nuts

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,625 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

It is a bit nuts. The Indy Next race was quite good. Jamie Chadwick struggled to fend off others from behind. And the last lap mechanical issue for the leader was a suprise!

I don't like this new Detroit track it's a huge downgrade on Belle Isle but it held up to be an ok race in the end so the track will be fixture on the schedule once GM are around

Palou is the only driver consistently on it and not making mistakes it's hard to see who can stop him in the final 10 races

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,920 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

Conor Daly is out at ECR which is a slight surprise considering he was involved in bringing their title sponsor Bitnile on board and he is not that far behind Veekay on points. No replacement announced yet but Indy Lights champs Linus Lundqvist was earmarked to test for the team soon he would seem the obvious candidate

    RHR replacing Daly AT ECR

This is far from ideal for anyone who uses Now. IndyCar qualifying going behind the red button because pre-quali coverage of F1 starts on SSF1 before it ends.

Fortunate to have the red button , Sky foolishly missing out the end of a great quali to show talking heads in Canada.

Power post quali interview is a classic , still rightly fuming at Dixon, complaining about the off track bumps and at the very end "Grosjean - someone needs to punch him in the face"

Grosjean ran Power into the grass.

Nice job by James Roe in Indy Next, started 10th, finished 5th.

Chadwick started 9th and finished 15th. Not seeing any strong racing from her in this series.

Seigel winning today after his first win coming out of Detroit Race 2.

Didn't help she got nerfed off on Lap 2. Whether she would've kept her position on-track, especially after the yellow... who knows.
