    Hi all,

Looking to buy some diesel fuel additives (JLM or Liqui Molly). Having a quick look on Amazon, prices around €5 cheaper than in local car store with lubricants etc. Unfornatelly Amazon don't deliver some of the products to IRL. Do you know any another suppliers with good deals/prices.

    Thanks

Probably micksgarage. Bit cheaper than the likes of halfords etc.

Worth trying your local auto parts. My local man has the full Liqui-Moly range at really good prices.

I can find DPF cleaner and diesel system cleaner in my local coop superstores, under a tenner I think, I buy in bulk when I get them. I recently go some stop start Diesel engine cleaner in Halfords, 300 ml was 11 our I think, have not used it yet. I've used REDEX, WYNNs or STP in the past, don't see a difference between brands, often I can get the REDEX in a bigger bottle, so better value. When used regular and in rotation the additives do their job. Better than not taking car of your engine and incurring more expensive jobs to remedy. Micksgarage is not always stocked up well and I find them a bit more expensive surprisingly. Your local auto accessory place should have some too.

Any chance to check the price of Ceratec and engine flush liquid (Liqui Moly), please?

The only one which I have heard consistently good reports about is Millers EcoMax additive. Having tried it a couple of times myself I thought the car ran better and we got slightly better fuel consumption too.

Mrs Pigeon uses the EcoMax Diesel on her 520d, I use the petrol variant on my own stuff. More miles with the diesel additive, noticeably quieter on an already quiet car. More power with the petrol. Only additive I use actively (apart from cataclean come test time for myself, why anyone uses that dipetane horsesh*t snake oil is beyond me) and would recommend as I've used it for many, many years with decent results

I used to run 2EHN on a C220 CDI. It gave it some wicked poke. It also eventually destroyed the pump and injectors

My father has used liqui moly before and has had great results, but with its price doesn't make it economical to use with every tank (well to me anyway. He uses it on a W126 that's not driven very much, well worth it in his case)

Why is dipetane snake oil versus any of the rest of the additives available? Genuinely curious as I've seen it recommended but don't know what it actually does really. If the engine is not optimised is run on a higher cetane/octane then I thought there wouldn't be any difference in using the expensive fuel versus regular stuff. Is that the same for additives in a bottle?

What sort of mileage difference are you seeing when using EcoMax? I would like to try it myself.

Not sure why 2-EHN would wreck your pump and injectors, it's probably the main ingredient in premium diesel as a cetane booster. Any ideas?

As for mileage difference when using Millers EcoMax, can't be sure, but there seemed to be some and the car did feel better. Use it over a few tankfuls and see how you get on.

It's an additive to get the emissions lower for the test, some use it for increased fuel economy. I haven't seen the results marketed to me when it came to test time, never tested it for fuel economy. I've used it a few times and given the additive time to work yet the high idle part of the test is no where near as low as cataclean. There is a chance I'm doing something wrong, but why cataclean works better with the same situation (NCT) I never got to the bottom of, but I'm open to try suggestions

Regarding ecomax on the 520d, the average fuel consumption went from 5.4l per 100 km to 5.2l per 100 km, same journeys, same driving style. It's definitely made the engine quieter, I've noticed at the pump the car doesn't take as much fuel at the end of the week to brim

On my own daily I use it for a bit of extra power, as it isn't exactly standard and isn't economical at best

I think it was a mixture of old equipment with high miles and me adding too much in which significantly shortened it's lifespan. It did give the car a very noticeable power increase mind you
