Micheál Martin is one of the great survivors around the FF top table. He hasn't stayed that long without having his wits about him. I'd reckon he'll only bow out of the limelight when he's good & ready. Leaving aside he was part of that government that oversaw the wreckage of our economy in the 2000s, he's a capable and sensible pair of hands.

No I don't think he will lose his seat.

We can't hold him responsible for the stagnancy of Irish politics. Although he made a gaff when he said there was no banking bailout.

I think people generally feel (unless they are the extreme end of either spectrum) that he is a nice person but a terrible leader.

Ya the public are a fickle thing, they don’t want politicians to lie except for the lies they want to believe. They believe that somewhere out there there must be at least one bank shareholder who did not loss their investment, but received all this government money. The biggest bailouts in European banking history, without a single shareholder received a cent.
