Iran's far right king Ali Khamenei is reported by some sources to be on 'his deathbead' ...

    Ali Khamenei - Google Search

If this is true .. it can only be good news provided that a more moderate and decent leader can emerge in this once great country he and his regime has destroyed over his 40+ years in power as president and then as king ... but such rumours about this guy's death and ill health have done the rounds before ... anyone know for sure what the status of this tyrant's health status actually is ... is it too good to be true to predict the end of this scourge on Iranian politics??

Who replaces him? Is that person a step in a better direction?

No shortage of hard-liners in Iran to replace him but who knows...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭lumphammer2

There are certainly plenty far right cultish hardliners lining up to take Shah Khamenei's place .... and there is an Iranian people sick to death of this oppressive, corrupt, hypocritical and incompetent system ...

Should Khamenei die it appears it is a contest between his son and current president Raisi ... both technically hardliners .. both competing to rule over a destroyed country with a people not interested in either option ....

My prediction is this regime will implode once Khamenei is gone ... maybe the 2 above potential successors try and change things ... I feel though some US-friendly entity will take over ... and that may not be the democracy Iran deserves either ... it may be a similar MeK regime ....

‘Twas great craic at the Iran Ireland WC playoff game in 2001. 1-0 to Iran but 2-1 on aggregate to us. You’ll never beat the Irish, loadsa scoops in the giant stadium them into the all night bars of Tehran. Great looking Iranian chicks, a great place can’t to go back.

That's what it is like for rich connected people in Iran .. not for the ordinary people though .. there are indeed all night bars in the homes of millionaire government members and pro regime entities .. some amount of hypocrisy with this regime as is the case with all far right entities ...

Controversial ′Rich Kids of Tehran′ relaunches on Instagram after being taken down | Science | In-depth reporting on science and technology | DW | 13.10.2014

This link tells only some of the story ... there is a law about the regime not interfering in people's homes ... there is also the complete control of organised crime including alcohol production/smuggling by the IRGC the paramilitary army that rules Iran ... being a son of these guys, the Mullahs and other connected people gives them special privileges to disobey the stupid laws that apply only to the poor, which is most Iranians because of the mishandling of the country by this shower ... and anti-regime entities (needless to say anyone who falls out of favour can have trumped up charges of living an 'unpious lifestyle' used to put you into prison!!) ...

Once he goes there will be a big push from western countries to get Iran back in the fold imo. They have oil that the west desperately needs. It will be interesting see how it plays out.

Ali Khamenei a Far Right leader?? I know he's a grade A sh#t, but the Irianian bolloxology is nether Left nor Right, just mad.

With strong influences from Russian and China, no way either would allow a pro-Western leader to come to power in Iran.

Iran are firmly in the "Eastern" sphere of influence, and with current level of sanctions its unlikely any western-aligned leader could ever make it.

Options to replace the current system should Khamenei die ...

1 Ebrahim Raisi .... so far all he has been is Khamenei's little puppy! ... running the courts, being the president, enforcing Khamenei's crude and silly law ... he has a dark past as an alleged war criminal and apparently ordered the execution of thousands .... if he took over he would not be a popular option with the people ... esp due to his lack of solutions for the current on life support state of the economy ... his rule has been hardline and oppressive with Khamenei ... but may have to moderate his stance if he was on his own so as to revive the economy and get people onboard ... especially in the light his main rival within the system would be a hardliner and Khamenei's son ... Raisi would more than likely front for the IRGC who could take over eventually in their own name ... and create a less religious more military type dictatorship a la Egypt ....

2 Mojtaba Khamenei ... defo the worst option of the lot ... you can be sure you'd get a continuation of the same as his father from him ... this would lead to a short lived premiership as Iranians have just about too much of the Khamenei family and their destruction of their country ... clearly all the other factions would unite against this guy ... the IRGC could come in and take advantage ... then set up their military regime ...

3 Mohammed Khatami ... former moderate president ... unlikely he'd be actual leader because he is nearly 80 ... but he will certainly be part of a more moderate wing in post Khamenei Iran ...

4 Hassan Rouhani ... another similar moderate former president but younger ... Rouhani achieved some rollback of oppression but was knocked down essentially by the 2017-21 far right American regime which paved the way for the current Iranian far right regime ... which blames Rouhani for anything bad in Iran and by doing so could help Rouhani gain sympathy .. he will certainly be in some post Khamenei moderate group ...

5 Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ... interesting one here! As president he started off as a hardline Khamenei stooge prone to spout controversial rhetoric and conspiracy theories ... he was part of a 'rigged 2009 election' ... he was not keen on compulsory hijab and argued with hardliners about social oppression such as this ... in the last years as president he fell out with Khamenei and has been barred from running for president in 2017 and 2021 ... his current status as a moderate and outspoken critic of both the Raisi and Rouhani regimes plus popularity among some Iranians means he could well be useful in a new regime ...

6 Hossein Khomeini ... Ayatollah Khomeini was the original leader of the Iranian revolution before Ali Khamenei hijacked it ... the Khomeini family have been kept out of high office by the Khamenei faction ever since. His grandson Hossein is an important voice among moderate clerics and could well speak for the unfinished elements of the revolution that the Khamenei faction shut down ... again an important part of the post Khamenei factions surely ...

7 Reza Pahlavi ... the son of the late Shah and crown prince ... many Iranians are nostalgic of the Pahlavi era and while it may have been better than the Khamenei era it was still an autocratic state ... should Reza return he has said he'd rule more as a president than a king and would have to work with 3-6 above and possibly 1 also in order to make things work ... but the Khamenei family would be 100% against him ...

8 Maryam Rajavi/MeK ... Trump's favourite Iranian regime ... this crowd were and are seen as traitors by most Iranians even those who hate the Khamenei regime ... if this regime was to come to power it would be done so by some orchestrated war or coup I'd feel because they are not liked at all, liked even less than Khamenei ... they supported Saddam in the 1980s war ... they at some point engaged in terrorist attacks that affected all 7 other entities ... yet because of the love the West have for this lot ... they could end up as Iran's new regime ... without any say from the people of Iran ...

Ali Khamenei has always been regarded as far right .... he was ideologically opposed to the more leftwing (by Iranian clerical standards!!) sentiments of Mir Hossein Mousavi and Ayatollah Khomeini during the 1980s ...

Today Khamenei supports the furthest right groups in current Iranian politics ...

Front of Islamic Revolution Stability - Wikipedia

or Paydari ... this group is essentially the far right group against reformist and deviant agents of change ... mostly against former presidents Khatami, Ahmadinejad, Rouhani, and the late Rafsanjani.

He is defo 100% a far right leader ... with every trait that goes with it incl. warped religious beliefs, blaming external forces/past Iranian govts for current problems, a bloated sense of his own importance, etc. ...

Agreed, why not just call him 'Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei'?

A poor attempt by the left at trying to link right wing ideology to dodgy characters.

They were tying themselves in knots on the journal comments while thinking Erdoğan was the president of Hungary.

These people regurgitate tweets and are incapable of thought.

... There is no doubt Iran's politics will have to change soon ... the economy is in tatters, the people have a very different worldview to Khamenei and his kind ... the leadership whether it will be nominally the same Republic or an alt Republic or Monarchy ... will have to change in order to survive ...

Needless to say that Iran will not be left in peace to rule itself regardless of who comes to power ... there will be a big push by the US/UK/EU to get Iran back in fold ... there will be a big push by China and Russia too to keep Iran in their sphere ...

A lot depends on who gets into power elsewhere too ... a Republican far right America would push 100% for the MeK and launch a war to finish off any post-Khamenei remnants of IRI ... UK/EU would follow suit on whatever US does ...

Russia depends on the outcome of this war and on Putin ... Putin has been traditionally popular in Russia, is less oppressive than Khamenei or the Chinese, and so far Russians are willing to forgive his mistaken Ukraine strategy ... but if this war were to drag on, and if Russia did need conscripts to win it, Putin could become as deeply unpopular as Khamenei or indeed the Tsar ...

As for China ... Xi is not at all popular with many Chinese esp in Shanghai, Wuhan and parts of Beijing because of his truculent pro lockdown Covid 19 policies ... if he goes on with too much of this his regime could fall apart too ...

Iran could well end up as another Korea, 1945-89 Germany, or 1950s-1970s Vietnam ... divided in 2 by the 2 dominant world powers, presumably the West and Russia/China today ...

Sounds like the standard traits of the progessive religion

There are dodgy characters on the right, on the left ... and less categorizable into one or the other ... Far right and far left are by their very nature dodgy .. unlike normal left and right ..

Ali Khamenei is a far right leader ... there is no doubt about that ... his Paydari supporters are the furthest right group in Iran .. there are and have been equally dodgy far left individuals and I am sure the MeK are examples of these from an Iranian perspective ...

We should never ever think everything right is good or everything left is good and anything right is bad or anything left is bad ... evil leaders exist and far anything is evil ... extremism is evil period ...

Call him the Shah .. that is what he rules as .. and wants to pass it onto his son. Shah is the Farsi word for king ... and Khamenei rules like a 1800s era king of Persia ..

Iran's president has ordered a probe in the case of a young woman who slipped into a coma while in police custody in Tehran and died.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭lumphammer2

Iran's so-called 'morality police' as well as their equivalents in Saudi Arabia and the like are scumbags of the worst kind ... This Raisi .. the president .. has a choice: he can impose the will of a failed leader Khamenei who if not dying now ... is in poor health .. will die later .. or he can reform the system and answer the people's concerns ... oppressing women and telling them how they should dress is wrong and what is worse is killing a young woman because she did not obey a stupid petty law ... I wonder how many real criminals get away with crimes when these 'police' harrass women who do not dress according to their view or ordinary people enjoying a beer? Then again the real criminals in Iran are its rulers ... who are not above selling drugs to fund their lifestyles ... so the police have find other targets ... the sooner this and other sick Middle Eastern regimes go the better ...
