Cyberpunk/sci-fi recommendations

Can anyone recommend some cyberpunk/Blade Runner-type books?

I was going to buy Necromancer but I don’t want start a trilogy or series. I would prefer a single book.

also, I the synopsis of Artemis caught my interest but I have heard that Andy Weir’s writing is terrible.

Do buy Neuromancer - it's very good and it works just fine as a stand alone novel.

I'd echo the recommendation to go ahead and read Neuromancer, it works fine as a standalone and remains one of the key cyberpunk novels.

There are umpteen lists floating around of 1980s and 1990s pulp SF novels that are considered cyberpunk, but many of them are not in a regular print anymore and can be a little dated when read now.

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson and Altered Carbon by Richard K Morgan remain safe bets

Wants Cyberpunk but won't read Neuromancer.

Literally the definition of cyberpunk. Everything else is just ripping it off.

Andy Weir's The Martian is the only book I ever read in one go. I could not put it down. You know what they say about judging a book, right?

I wasn’t judging a book, but I can see how the way I phrased the statement can be seen as such.

I wanted to to get opinions on Weir’s writing and I should have said that.

From your recommendations it sounds like Neuromancer hasn’t dated like some others books of the type ? Or is it such a classic that it doesn’t matter it has aged a bit?

It doesn't feel dated to me. Gibson managed to make everything effortlessly cool, it's like a movie on the page. A lot of it is that he leaves you wondering about a lot of things, he doesn't spell out and explain everything in great detail.

I have longing for something new that is similar to Blade Runner - which is a movie does not age at all.

I will buy Snow Crash too and Altered Carbon.
