Reclaimed park in Howth

So a while back I read about a new park being created in Howth. It would be reclaimed from the sea from material from the dredging of the harbour, however I was out there over the weekend and there's no sign of any construction. Is it still going ahead?

Of course there was! Shame but hopefully it'll get built, I think it would be a great amenity for Howth.

reading the planning file it seems the council planners themselves had things it wanted changed, particularly keeping the end of the pier as it is now so they put a channel at halfway along to seperate the park from it. and moving the road away from the back of the buildings

Nothing can be done in Howth without trawling through months of objections first, to be fair. That was to be expected I'd say.

There's an old boundary fence dividing my estate like the Berlin wall which the council has been saying they'd remove for 8 years now

That's the reality of democratic systems, they work slowly and have to find consensus. It isn't like someone in charge points at a map and says "there" and the park gets built

I imagine one of the major stumbling blocks would be that the material dredged from the harbour is so heavily polluted that it isn't worthwhile using it for reclaiming land

Absolutely but some democratic systems are much slower than others!

And it's precisely because the material is contaminated that they're creating the park in the first place. I guess they can't dump it out at sea.
