If you are fan of The Tudors and Bridgerton, then you might enjoy fantasy royal romance My Lady Jane on Amazon Prime based on true story of England's 9 day Queen

I think it must be only through certain 'special' apps on firesticks that makes it available here.

To manage expectations, this is bonkers in a good way. The likes of Jim Broadbent, Rob Brydon and Anna Chancellor are clearly having fun with their roles and lines. This is set in an alternative universe to ours and has some fantasy elements. Its reality is more Princess Bride than the real Tudors.

Oh yeh. At first I assumed that it was a true story, but the hotel existed, as did the manager, but most of the other stuff is pure fiction, with a lot of input from the manager's son. In the series he only has a daughter, but I suppose a son could have arrived in later life. It's still quite watchable though.😛

We finished Shogun , best series Ive seen this year, the production quality was great. I find the Japanese > Romans any day of the week ;-)

Tried the first episode of Rap Sh!t, - "Two estranged high school friends from Miami reunite to form a rap group". Created by Issa Rae, she of Insecure. Billed as a comedy on Rotten Tomatoes, but didn't really find it funny. Hoping it was going to be somewhere between Girls5eva and Insecure, but it felt a bit flat. Only seen first episode mind. 2 seasons so far.

A while ago, I saw Julio Torres' stand-up (or sit-down, really) show 'My Favorite Shapes' on Sky Comedy, so I was interested when I saw his new six-part programme was out.

Fantasmas is a look into Julio's funny, surreal world. Something a bit different, with a few interesting cameo appearances. It wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I liked it.

I don't see a thread on the "Terminator Zero" series on Netlix.

Overall I think it's worth a watch, only 8 episodes at 30mins so very digestible. Probably the most philosophical entry to the franchise I am aware of, and I thought the ending was quite compelling.

Tried this, but had to give up quicksmart coz its Japanese anime, which I can't stand. Pity, the "most philosophical entry" phrase piqued my interest, and the first action scene was pretty good. Can't hack Japanese anime though.

Can't see a thread for Romulus, which I came across by chance.

    Screenshot from 2024-09-17 19-45-08.png

"The story of Romulus and his twin brother Remus, in eighth century B.C. as seen through the eyes of three people marked by death, loneliness and violence". No, it's not a comedy. What it is, which I discovered as soon as I began watching it, is a Cattleya production; dem's dat brought us Gomorrah. Music, again, by Mokadelic (also has Genny's wife in it). Very good, and very promising. 2 seasons so far.

    Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)

In the initial episode, Marty Hopkirk is murdered during an investigation but returns as a ghost. Jeff Randall is the only main character able to see or hear him, though certain minor characters are also able to do so in various circumstances throughout the series, such as mediums, drunks, or those under hypnosis.

    good fare 👍

I've watched the first season of french sci-fi thriller Missions, which has 3 seasons. With a title as generic as that, I'm not going to even bother seeing if there's a thread for it (though "french sci-fi thriller" screams No). If you're a sci-fi fan, It's really good, delivering in both the sci-fi and the thriller departments, with great ideas in there.

It's a Shudder production if that helps.

There was never a thread on it but there might have been a mention of it on the BBC4 thread when they aired it.

Ulysses, as the title there, is the name of their spaceship.

Started watching Series 2 of The Last King Of The Cross, it's on Paramount+ in Australia.

Enjoyed Series 1 which is up on NowTV, I expect Series 2 will follow.

    ^^^

It's on my firestick app, so 'alternative sourcing' might be only way to get it .

I am sure this has been discussed but we watched both seasons of 'The Dry' on RTE Player in last two weeks and thought it was really good. When it came our first it was advertised as a comedy, seemed a bit stupid from the trailers and nobody around me was talking about it so avoided it until now.

It's very funny in places but its a mostly very serious and very dark and very well written. The actors and acting in it are also really good and it ended really well. Well worth watching if you have not seen or dismissed it.
