Its not a both sides issue. Biden is the president of the free world and has social media doing his bidding and won’t take a cognitive ability test. Trump is away off in his own network of obscurity, the only reference I see to his posts here are from his haters resubmitting it to boards. He’s irrelevant.

Democracy will only work once you remove the human element O.o

Funny how Clarkson only points fingers at the peoples choices in other countries, when the UK has elected some utter buffoons itself. Ah but by jingo, it would never do to question the voting habits of one’s own people. We won’t even go there with the royalty in the UK and the effectivity of that unelected bunch.

"They got out of Afghanistan"? They abandoned it having spent billions and armed the Taliban to the teeth. Complete failure.

Overcame COVID? How exactly? Only for Operation Warp Speed they would still be waiting for vaccines. Something Trump actually did right. They are still masking 4 year olds in many blue states.

Weakening Russia? Biden literally announced they would do nothing if Russia invaded, and realistically, what else would they do? Declare nuclear war?

And they have abandoned democracy in Hong Kong and have greenlighted a Chinese invasion of Taiwan by affirming a "One China" policy after upsetting Xi with Nancy Pelosi's visit.

And Kim Jong Il has started firing missiles over Japan again and supplying weapons to Russia.

Really I don't see how it could be any worse, outside a nuclear war.

And as I've said, I've seen similar behaviour in highly intelligent, fully cognisant and much younger academics!

What is the ‘it’ to which you are referring? Since I made multiple remarks your post makes no sense, the ambiguity is unsurpassable. Perhaps that was your intent though, to make things tiresome. I’ll leave it there, continue as you wish.

Social media doing Biden's bidding. Ironclad, irrefutable proof please.

    No point matchbox.

These people see the world in black and white. Anything the Democrats do is good, anything the Republicans do is bad. In 2016 Hillary Clinton didn't accept the result of the election, declaring there was Russian collusion and interference, from CNN : https://edition.cnn.com/2022/05/20/politics/hillary-clinton-robby-mook-fbi/index.html. What did the Russians do, force people to vote for Trump at gunpoint?

If Trump was such a Putin ally, why did Putin wait until Biden was president to invade Ukraine?

As I've repeated ad nauseum, I'm not a Trump fan and he is an obnoxious and horrible man - the definition of a narcissist. Trump's biggest ally is Trump. But saying Biden is a steady hand when the world has gone to sh1t since he got elected is just insane.

    Trumpster nonsense.

Trump did the deal that condemned Afganistan. He did more to empower Putin and other autocrats than anyone. He spread anti-vaxxer conspiracy theories during the pandemic and attempted a fascist coup at the end of it. Trump still doesn't accept that he lost in 2020 but for someone who isn't a Trump supporter, you've conveniently ignored that.

Yeah this is what I meant, we are totally polarized.

Did you ever think of comparing the Afghanistan withdrawal to other withdrawals from other occupations in history, using objective measures such as casualties sustained? It's was actually a decent performance. You can thank the military for that I guess. You can thank trump for the plan.

must be nice to use your power to argue with everyone and have no consequences , i'd say that posters last 50 posts have been negatively attacking posters. But becareful they might block you !!

But we weren't talking about Trump. We were talking about Biden. I agree with you on hydroxychloroquine, not accepting the 2020 election result and encouraging some overweight people and weirdos in buffalo horn hats to storm the capitol. But I won't agree with you on empowering Putin or other autocrats. They were all afraid of him as a loose cannon that could do anything. They aren't afraid of Biden.

Trump imposed tariffs on China. He told the Germans they were mad to become dependent on Russian gas imports, which was "debunked" as a "conspiracy theory" at the time but is now shown to be 100% on the money. Funny behaviour for someone empowering Putin.

Nah, nobody was afraid of him. Autocrats all over the world knew they could do as they pleased knowing that Trump was too busy destroying race relations and promoting bleach.

Then why didn't they "do as they pleased" - instead waiting for "the mighty Biden" to "do as they pleased"?

And race relations are irrelevant outside the West. The Chinese have a whole slave class with the Uighurs and nobody bats an eyelid.

Obama had the balls to strike at his enemies and was an impressive figure. Biden isn't.

Irrefutable proof of anything is a difficult task, evidence is what is usually asked for.

If you had read my earlier submissions you will have noticed a conversation about a man by the name of Alex Berenson.

If you do a little research you’ll find he was kicked off of twitter, sued them and is now back on it. During the stage of discovery private twitter messages with the white house on ‘slack’ were revealed. This is not a matter of contention this is all a matter of fact.

Whatever happened to good old Irish scepticism of politicians? It's been replaced with Democrats / Sinn Féin / the EU / Trump (depending on your poison) are infallible angels and all the rest are devils. What a simplistic view of the world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,353 ✭✭✭joseywhales

I think you are framing it that way because its simpler to comprehend in absolutes and extremes. I have plenty of criticism for Biden or whoever else. Some of us can see grey and are not afraid of it.

Nothing so. I'm not researching your argument for you.

I'll believe it when I see proof. Trump was only concerned with playing golf. Had Putin invaded Ukraine while he was president, Trump would most likely have tried to join in.

The whataboutery about China is irrelevant though I do remember Trump fawning over Xi Jinping.

Obviously Clarkson's comment should be taken as irony.

@joseywhales you asked why there was no proof of bidens dementia and yet again all replies were deleted. Your question remains as if to say there is no proof.

For me proof would be a clinical diagnosis by a neurologist, does this exist?

No point in having this discussion when all replies will be deleted. I guess I’ll get banned for noting this, I’ve already been warned. I just sent a request to close my account anyway so good luck to you.

Not exactly directed at you, but it was your post that got me thinking (along with reading the responses of the others on the thread)

Any bit of criticism is seen as an attack these days.. Which is sad since it is the open examination of our own societies that tends to make western cultures "fairer" than other national cultures, but there's so much desire to shutdown anything that might make us uncomfortable over the realities we live in. Much better to stay quiet, and pretend everything is going along swimmingly.

Democracy can only ever succeed as long as people examine, and criticise the state of it's existence as it stands at that given moment. Whenever we allow democracy to exist without examination and observations on its operation, it tends to de-evolve, and become less "democratic". Western societies need to observe and comment more on how the democratic systems they use to ensure that they remain close to the original desire for democracy, rather than this "holier than thou" attitude that tends to happen whenever people talk about it.

American democracy, for example, is a mess... between the wealthy elite exclusively in positions of political power, the alleged tampering of vote counts or the jury-rigging/manipulation of voting districts. It's a mess because there has never really been enough conversation about the state of their democracy, and too much buying into the propaganda of them being the "Bastion of democracy", "the best", or whatever. People assumed that their system was the best, and with that assumption they stopped questioning, and pointing out what was wrong, which led to a stagnation over positive reform.

That's what Clarkson represents. A questioning of the status quo, and he's to be commended for doing it. I don't particularly like him, as a personality, however, he's one of those irritating commentators that point out when things are going wrong somehow. Remember Spitting Image, folks?

It seems like there is far less criticism/satire/etc of politics, and democracy now, considering we're supposedly more free, than twenty or thirty years ago. That's particularly "true" when it comes to the media, who don't have any credibility anymore, and never really present an environment for voters to ask IF their democracy is effective, and representative..

I think Clarkson is what he is. Like most popular entertainment workers he manages to split opinion, but he basically spits out what your average Joe would down the old English pub, they love him for it.

Most dissenters are jealous of his infamous notoriety. Who wouldn't want to be happily shacked up on a Gloucestershire ranch with an ex Irish model driving a Lamborghini tractor badly for a living? He basically is now living the contents of my childhood toy set. I say fair play to him.

Posters should get it for what it is and get over it for whatever that it is.... because it is not going to change.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread, he is now literally dialing or ringing it in and good luck to him.

When George Carlin said it everyone proclaimed him a genius. Democracy succeeds in offering the illusion to voters that they actually have a choice. We don't, there exists people that own shít and people who don't. That is all that matters unfortunately. Your vote won't buy you change either, believe.
