Why don't you just enter the race via the website?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

Got one. Site wasn't loading properly yesterday so the proceed button was greyed out. Thought entry was closed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,708 ✭✭✭rovers_runner

Registration was supposed to close on the 2nd, I guess they know the numbers will be well down so no harm to keep them open up until the Friday of the race I'd say.

They've consistently had between 6000 and 7000 for this race in the past so it will be a true picture of where we are at in terms of the country running and marathon projections.

  • Decided to jump on in. Flying home again. Didn't know Garth Brooks was on too. Thankfully have somewhere to stay as hard to find somewhere under €500 a night which is madness.

I know there is only so many routes you can get from the Park but this seems particularly boring imo.

Down the Ordnance Survey road 3 times and up Acres Road twice.

  • True but I spent many a mile plodding around it so I still enjoy a race there.

No parking restrictions, work away lads.

DCM facebook still trying to discourage it to make sure their mates get parked handy.

There is an info desk on the morning, if you ping them an email I'm they will have a replacement ready for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,367 ✭✭✭nullObjects

I did the race series so it sent them out as a bundle, it says on the letter that comes with it that it's possible to replace them for a fee so I'd say contact them and they can sort you out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,299 ✭✭✭ooter

I only entered on Sunday but there's no mention at all of how I get my number, will there be a collection point on Saturday morning does anyone know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,530 ✭✭✭Naked Lepper

RACESERIES@DUBLINMARATHON.IE is the contact mail , i sent an email this morning and am waiting for a reply. id be happy to collect race number this week in dublin somewhere if possible. i am sure the morning of would do as well but it might be a bit awkward at race starts at 9am

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,367 ✭✭✭nullObjects

For the ten mile anyway the little information booth was right next to the start line so should hopefully be ok

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,530 ✭✭✭Naked Lepper

if anyone has any queries jean at RACESERIES@DUBLINMARATHON.IE is very responsive and helpful - my problem with the race tax and address has been sorted quickly.

  • My number just arrived. 7614. Does that mean over 7k entries?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 801 ✭✭✭SeeMoreBut

It means you are the 7614 unique entry into the race series I believe unless they reuse numbers across series for different people if not entered in a bundle

anyone willing to propose pacing strategies for the phoenix park half marathon? i recall some suggesting negative split for DCM and pushing on a bit after walkinstown roundabout

am aiming for a PB on this so will go all out (hopefully) on the day but my previous HM have all been fairly consistent splits. this time id like to push but dont want to burn out too early. hmmmmm

I forgot to register. If anyone has spare race number I will be able to collect in the Dublin area, I can pay face value.

Website has one route and the TDL app has another 😂

I thought when I saw the route first it didn’t go down as far as the chapelizord gate but appears to now at the start. I was hoping we wouldn’t but what can you do

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,708 ✭✭✭rovers_runner

I hope they tell the lads up the front in advance. Would be handier to get away without it on first lap, good sets of hills and drags mid race as it stands.

Looking at the tracker it really hits home when you query other counties entry numbers and lack of presence from the big clubs, don't know if we will see anything like other years numbers, looking forward to it immensely mind, great running weather promised too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭Sammy2012

Is there many water stations on the route?

Original route map went into furry glen and didn't drop into the V at Chapelizod Gate.

Updated map skips the Glen but drops down at the gate. Minor adjustment to start point as well on Chesterfield Ave. Guessing the website one is the accurate one as it is recently changed. We shall find out tomorrow!

Is this the same thing as the mini-marathon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,530 ✭✭✭Naked Lepper

beautiful morning for the half, hope it went well for everyone

delighted to shave 15 (!!) min off my 2019 time

the medal is a bit disappointing this year - no reference to the half. just says dublin race series. t shirt not great either lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,708 ✭✭✭rovers_runner

Great event as always, lovely morning for it.

Didn't mind the loops as you knew once you got up Wellington Rd that was it for there and the Acres Rd was ok, tight corner and steep climb at 10.5m was tough but a good challenge of a course all in all.

Hoped for even paced 9's and got that so happy out, 13.2 despite running a good line so distance good as always.

Seems like there was a good number of finishes after all too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,987 ✭✭✭Trampas

Well organised as usual. Wasn’t mad about the footpath parts as can cause some congestion at times but nothing major. Found I speeded up after coming off them. Loops didn’t bother me.

Water stop at 6 miles was a bit of a mess as tables to far back from the people giving out the water as need to walk back to get more cups instead of turning.

  • Yeah, more enjoyable than the 10m. 100min pacer was a bit fast. 7.20 2nd mile. I couldn't squeeze the plastic cup like the paper which was a tad annoying. No need for water station at the 3m mark. Everyone running it in great form. Calf is fecked though. 97.27 overall and a new pb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,530 ✭✭✭Naked Lepper

on a cool morning like today if you are hydrated enough beforehand there is not that much need to take on extra water imo

i know everyone is different - few gels kept me going. the cups are really awkward to drink from. i hope they have 250ml plastic bottles for the full marathon next month..

I had a great run this morning. I enjoyed the course. The weather was fantastic. I came away with a PB.

One thing that happened was my friend who was running the whole way with me until 19.5km (I decided to push on) was directed by a Marshall to continue on instead of turning left for the finish. He ended up running 26.7km.

He wasn't the only people I seen heading/sent the wrong direction. Earlier when we were running up Acres Rd just past the 10mile marker, runners exiting the pitches path at marker 6 went left instead of right . I was shouting at them go turn around. When the Marshall heard my shouting he turned around and tried to call the runners back the right way. That shouldn't have happened.

Overall it was a great event, but if I was sent the wrong way I'd be livid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 801 ✭✭✭SeeMoreBut

I think if giving water out of cups instead of bottles they could add an extra water stop.

People are not getting the same amount of water as in a bottle.

Some might say they people shouldn't need it which is probably true but you've a lot of people do even for their own mind. Could have probably thrown one around the papel cross or moved the 5/6 miler one on to acres road to do both laps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 485 ✭✭Applegirl26

Does anyone know how the runner is doing, who collapsed during the race today? He was near the mile 9 sign.

I can't stop thinking of him. I hope he's OK.

Thought the route was poor in places

Organisation coming off the loop around the 15 acres was awful

The bit going up the footpath at around 19km was terrible. Had a very near miss with some woman dawdling across the path while on her phone oblivious to what was happening

It needed to have better barriers and marshaling.

Surprised no one is giving out about the bag drop yet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 349 ✭✭solidasarock

Will echo that I really did not like the course this year.

Too much of it was on footpaths where people could barely run 2 abreast instead of on the road.

Anyway reason why they couldnt do a full lap of the outer ring of the park like previous years?

Does anybody know the reason they can't have the same course as there was a few years ago? Including North rd, Whites rd, Tower rd etc? Why was it possible then but not now?

I got a 4 minute PB today so I should be happy, but it wasn't a memorable race. Three times on the same stretch of road, doubling back, running on narrow pavements, just not a great course.

I also continue to wish your man on the microphone would stop droning on for hours. Mix it up for **** sake.

I gave my bag to a child who couldnt be older then 5/6 who was just putting all the bags into a big pile.

Seems like people actually sorted the pile while the race was on and had no issue picking it up thought.

Great conditions and a PB meant I was happy enough. However, agree that the course had a few dangerous pinch points, particularly with the size of the field. The section on the footpath on Chesterfield Ave backing on to the finish area was not fenced or marshalled, and I saw a few near misses here. The start area grids had very limited access again so loads of people clambering over the barriers to get in. Thought the water cups were ok although the location of the stations could have been better.

Weekend 10k jogger here. I did one half marathon before today. A "rock n roll" half in 2019 and they had lucozde bottles at the drink stations. I was going to ask how is it possible to drink from a cup while jogging??? On my first attempt at water today I was like a contestant on Takeshi's Castle trying to drink while on a 360 loop on a roller coaster... Then on the 2nd try I inhaled and coughed up more water than I drank. Gave up on the water after that but was gasping at the end :D

At the full marathon will there be lucozade bottles or more cups? If it's cups I'm thinking of getting a hip flask for my pocket to sip from. What about filling it with fosfor tonic mixed with lucozade? or maybe buckfast?

For a newbie like me, this half marathon was very enjoyable. Thank you to the organisers and the 1.50 pacers!

I did it in 1 hour 48 and was delighed with that at first....but looking now at the overall race stats it was pretty poor compared to the overall calibre. The winner's time especially is utterly mind boggling to me... How the.. what the.. holy mother of God, Peter Somba 1 hour 7min is super human!

    Well done to all!

One question - Does anyone know about "heart rates"? I recently got a Samsung galaxy watch that "alarms" when I go over 180bpm even though I feel fine. My age category is "40M". Running up a hill fast in the local park last Wednesday it said "201 bpm". I try to stay below 165 bpm on the watch but it is much slower pace than before I got the watch. Basically I am wondering if a) the watch is full of crap or b) I'm about to keel over?

Congrats! Just a heads up there's a beginners questions thread where there might be more traffic to answer your last question.

I decided to do the Medieval half in Kilkenny yesterday instead.

The Dublin Half course was too much like the Frank Duffy 10mile to have me interested enough to travel up for it.

I know they had a failed attempt at taking the Half out of the Park before but it would be nice to have it somewhere else, especially if the Frank Duffy is to remain there and the courses are so similar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,708 ✭✭✭rovers_runner

Think the event has outgrown the park if they cannot get access to more space than they had to play with yesterday.

Would they look at the area from Merrion Square or Leeson Street, out towards UCD and use some of the campus. Could even take in Roebuck and Fosters Ave and back into town.

So many parallel roads in and out of the city in that area that road closures could be managed easily enough.

I'd like to balance things out with a whingeless post.

I thought it was 10/10. Superb. Bleedin amazing.

I love a course that has you running alongside or against people ahead and behind. I find it to be a real boost.

Highlight was turning off chesterfield at mile 9 and running behind the lead car for a bit, with Peter Somba coming up alongside us on his home stretch. Gave him a shout out to take down the 4, then seeing the chasing guy, was brilliant. Don't often get to see that.

Helps I suppose that I had a great race personally, a 15 sec negative split and 90 secs better than the 10k predicted. Whoop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,530 ✭✭✭Naked Lepper

yeah what are we meant to do with them lol

the goodie bag was a bit crap, maybe they are saving for the DCM to treat us to something nice! :P

the exit could have been planned better too, after u leave from bag drop u have to cross the footpath to get onto chesterfield ave, was barely any gaps between all the runners coming past. was really dodgy

hope the full park can be opened next year or else some tweaks to the route

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,448 ✭✭✭Lazare

Sliced my finger cutting wedges last night. Wouldn't have had a plaster had it not been for that goodie bag haha, so another thumbs up from me.

Still on after a shower and multiple hand washes btw 😀
