Submersible water pump

Was chatting to my plumber and I'm not overly happy with water flow (nothing to do with drought) he was suggesting a new Submersible pump. I was of the impression these were not a good idea (years ago).

I will need to service farm, house and yard. Anyone got any experience of these verses the over ground ones?

Submersible far superior to an overground pump. They are much more efficient, no priming needed.

How deep is your well. I'd say it's mostly submersible pumps going in nowadays

Submersible is the best pump unless you've a shallow well.

there are submersible pumps for shallow wells too, have one here, the pump can be installed horizontally , fit probes to cut off if the water falls below a certain level. well is only 3 feet deep/

How is a submersible pump more efficient? I presume you mean electricity cost wise?

Yeah easier on electricity. It doesn’t have to use much energy pulling the water in because it’s in the water. So all it has to do is push the water up to the pressure vessel.

An above ground pump has to pull the water up then pump it into the pressure vessel.

I suppose pushing is easier than sucking.
