Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Bucketing down in Galway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

Still above 15c in South Laois and haze-smog from the gorse fires in the southeast. Can smell it in the air. Dry.

The sky is crying in Tullamore. If Galileo was here, he'd surely say it had a very false autumnal feel to it.

Rather cool now at 9.8C no rain since the front went through quickly here in Kerry.

    First wave gone through 1mm.

A bigger wave hot on it's heels rolling up over Tipp and West Waterford now.

Heading towards the half-inch (12.7mm) with 11.4mm in the Davis AWS in south Laois. The grass will love that!

    Currently 11.8c.

Dry morning and calm here in Kerry although more cloudy now and rain not far away, feeling cool, first long sleeved shirt on in months 😀

12C approx ( think batteries gone on sensor )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,913 ✭✭✭Danno

Manual rain gauge here in southern Laois registered 10.6mm - so the Davis' 12mm suggests there is a little gunk in the spoon which needs clearing - not surprising following that dry spell. Can see the back end of the front coming in over the western horizon with a nice slice of clear blue sky there. Rain slowly easing here. Currently 11.8c.

    13mm so far and 13.5c

Meanwhile SE England still enjoying summer with temps up to 24c today, they really do enjoy a very pleasant climate in those parts. It wouldn’t surprise me if the rain doesn’t even make it as far as there.

Dazzling all day out here .. West Mayo is faring well today... But there was the ghost of hoar frost on the wide bladed grass in very shelterd places eg under thick bushes, around, 7 am. Hard to believe at first but no doubt.

You seem to be in the yellow all day doc on the Irish radar, its been on and off here up the road a bit with only 13.8mm rain currently though though its the heaviest its been all day. Have to say the garden needs it, my raspberries have been uncharacteristically small this year, should get some nice juicy ones after this!

Lit my woodstove for the first time since spring, lovely :)

Very Heavy Rain in S Wexford

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,184 ✭✭✭Elmer Blooker

from what I’m seeing on the radar at the moment the really heavy 50mm stuff is going to move up along the east coast and miss Stradbally tonight which should ‘only’ get about 25mm.

Thats the way I’m seeing it now as I hit the sack.

Extremely heavy here. Its rare it sounds so impactful

Pretty ferocious squall here in Greystones around 0430. Everyone in the house woke with the wind/rain. Much quieter now with just drizzle. 36.4mm since midnight. 12.6c atm.

Not very scientific but I left an empty bucket out last night and now there's 3 inches of water in it! Some amount of rain must have fallen overnight. We had a stream gone dry and now it's flowing away.

Fine day now in Greystones. Clear/sunny. 18.4c atm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,588 ✭✭✭✭M.T. Cranium

Looks like a general 30-40 mm rainfall between 0400h and 0700h in the Dublin-Meath obs, no doubt this was also the case for parts of east Wicklow and Louth, and on into much of Northern Ireland. Ballyhaise had 24 mm and Mullingar about 12 mm showing the fairly sharp western cutoff for this heavy rainfall event. Malin Head reported wind gusts to 98 km/hr between 08h and 09h. It has been sunny and near 20 C most of the day up there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,588 ✭✭✭✭M.T. Cranium

Would expect some 15-25 mm rainfalls across the inland southeast from that cluster off the Cornwall coast at present, moving north. Heaviest rainfalls around 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Winds picked up her in waterford and rain pretty heavy now. Watching a hedgehog getting fed up with the rain and trying to make up it's mind where the nearest cover is to leg it to.

10mm here this evening in Kerry

13.8C after a high of 19.5C, bright and breezy until the evening , really decent day.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,923 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Just had a really short spell of intense rain and strong gusts here in South Wicklow and it ended as quickly as it began. A massive gust at the end and then silence for a few minutes. A bit blustery here now but not too much rain here tonight seems we escaped the worst of that.

Edit: scratch that, bucketing down now. I must have jinxed it!

very odd weather here in Dublin, there are sudden downpours that last about 30 seconds and finish as quick as they’ve started.

never seen anything like it, almost tropical or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,634 ✭✭✭✭Graces7

Wild, wet, windy.. West Coast..offshore. Winter is here..

Odd. I gat severe SAD and it usually kicks in in August as the days shorten.

With August being such sunny weather no sign and i did not even think once, then wondered what was wrong with me when the weather broke.. From clear into full on SAD.

Blustery and mostly cloudy start in Greystones. 16.9c atm. 2.0mm since midnight form showers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,923 ✭✭✭adocholiday

The weather here in South Wicklow has been abysmal since last night. Really heavy squally showers last night that woke me up a few times, and today the rain hasn't let up at all. There has been a constant stream coming up from the south east over Wexford into Wicklow and onto Kildare and Westmeath all morning according to the radar. Well and truly sick of the rain now.

Missed them all morning here in Greystones. All passed (just) to the west and the sun even cam out for a bit. May not miss the next showers! 17.2c atm.
